Bill Flynn had 2 68 LO23 Hemi Darts
I have a lot of pictures and info on the two cars, that my buddy Tony got from Bill Flynn's brother. When I get them loaded up I will post a few.

Bill Flynn's 64 car local paper, Bill receiving his national champion trophy and a picture of the trophy

Max Hurley's Dart, photo from Facebook. Notice the quarter panel. Is this the same one that was crashed on the street?

BO29 and LO23 Hemi Blocks

Does anybody know or have an original block From 68 BO29 Hemi Barracuda or a LO23 Hemi Dart.
My question is, What is stamped on them. Was the first 50 different from the rest?
Trying to find some info on these blocks. I am going to look at one. I want to make sure what I am looking at.

thanks for any help

Hi, new member here. I've been following this thread for at least a few years, and am amazed at the wealth of information about these cars that’s available here.

I've always been interested in the LO23 & BO29 cars, and have seen a number of the cars in this and the Hemi Cuda thread race at various events since 1970. Al Adamic's “Al’s Toy” and Billy Lyon’s “Queen Bee” BO29 'Cudas were both regulars at tracks I raced at in northeast Ohio. Curiosity has me looking for photos and history of a particular Dart that I crossed paths with over four decades ago.

As a teenager I would frequent a local speed shop that ran an AA/FD, and one day in 1970 I was there when a Hemi Dart was trailered in. This Dart belonged to Kenny Bracken of Mentor, Ohio; and the car was named "Bracken’s World" - most likely a play on the television show by the same name. It was painted yellow with red on the side panels, very similar to the Mancini cars.

I didn't know the difference between a LO23 car and other Darts at the time, but over the years it has become apparent to me that what I remember about the scoop, stance, Hemi, Dana 60, and fact that it was running in Pro Stock lead me to believe it was an LO23.

To support this – although not real proof – research on Draglist shows it as a ’68 Dodge Dart by Factory, running a 426 Hemi and 4-speed. The car was even mentioned in Kenny’s obituary where it stated: "Mr. Bracken had a lifelong love of cars … He owned a 1968 Dodge Dart Hemi, which he purchased for $5,000." I can’t imagine a Dodge Dart being mentioned in an obit unless it was a very special one!

Being that many photos are no longer available in the older posts, has anyone seen or know the history of this car? Or if it really was an LO23? I searched this thread and the name Bracken came up in one post by dc426 where he mentions having bought the THT Dart from a fellow named Roy Bracken in 1989. Coincidence, or is there a connection there?

Welcome here 340sixpack.

I do not recall the Dart you speak of but if anyone would know it will be Mark Janaky or Dell jones. they are the best historians on these cars.

Dave might have some background assistance on things "Bill Flynn".

You guys amaze me.... 40 years of wondering resolved in half an hour

I kind of figured Kenny was one of the "in between" owners not as well documented as original or current owners. So my memory is a bit fuzzy on the colors. At least I got the red part right! I do remember it having the Cragar S/S wheels. Perhaps I got the yellow/ red combo from the speed shop's decals - Lake Speed Equipment - owned by Harold "Slim" Carter who partnered with Jim Walther in T/F and won the World Finals in 1972, hence the Championship.

Looking for anyone who has worked with installing the thin reproduction side glass in these cars. I recently purchased the glass and want to get as educated as I can prior to installation.

TIA
Bob
