Default Need help need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 92 Camaro J/SA that we just got, it has stock disc brakes on the front and drum on the rear. I need to bring the rpm up when I'm staging but the brakes don't hold that well. I have a set of strange brakes that I can put on the rear. My question is, is there any reason why i shouldn't add disc brakes to the rear? Do they drag and slow the car down?

Try adjusting them to where the rear drum will just slide over the shoes and studs.

Do what Larry says ....
Also , try riding (dragging) the brakes in the staging lanes to get them hot ? This will give you about 4-500 more RPM holding power on the starting line.. Make sure you also pump the brakes several times while staging ??This will also help you leave at a higher RPM ....

I have seen manual conversions that have master cylinder in wrong location,manual and power are located different,
Check where master cylinder is mounted,when they are converted to manual brakes if master cylinder is put back in same location it will not have enough leverage,manual brake master cylinder was located high,where the top studs for booster was,usaully pedal will have hole but no pin,I grind swedge off pin and knock out w/punch and move to higher hole and then weld to retain,if this is case you will also have to fab new plate for firewall
MAKE SURE pushrod retained so that it can't come out of master cylinder,I usaully take piston out of cylinder and drill recess that rod sits in to a hole about 1/2-3/4 deep for rod to go up inside of piston. Have a positve retention method on pushrod where no way can it come out of master cylinder

i've got a 92 camaro as well. aerospace on the front, mopar minivan master cyl, stock rear drums. can push 3400 in the lights and hold. 3500 will creep

The brakes seem to work fine just not when im trying to stage the car at any kind of RPM. Is there any reason not to put the strange brake set that I have on the rear?

You need to buy two sets of rear brake shoes and only use the primary from each set, the ones that are the longer lineings. Also resurface the rear drums, and adjust brakes. You should be able to hold the car between 3400 & 3500. Check the ratio of the brake pedal, you may need to lengthen the pedal ( move the push rod to pedal attachment higher up) more leverage. No need for rear disc. Drum brakes hold better.
