Tim I'm happy it worked and also that I may have helped you fix it. Makes me happy to give people some advice or help fixing machines. Gives me something to do in my sit down time at home or work. You can call me at work during the week. 973-328-6880 Just ask for Rich....I am usually able to get to the phone unless I am under a vehicle wrestling with something.

Sorry I missed all this and glad to hear your new board fixed the problem. The DKD series in my opinion is far superior than the new Onans, I've been all through nine in the last 16 yrs I've owned it, If you need any of the manuals or a common parts list pm me your email and I'll send them. I would advise you to carry a spare Fuel Pump and a spare water pump with a new belt.

The DKD's are very reliable and heavy duty but are open type units so they are a little noisier than the closed box designs.

The radiator placement and design makes it tougher to mount for proper airflow....

The closed units draw cool air in and blow hot air out the bottom. Makes it a lot easier to mount them in many MH's and trucks..

I don't see DKD's often.....

I did do a lot of work on one a few months ago.

It was mounted inside a step van type truck that was used as a command center for a local town.....Probably at least 15 years old and just needed some major maintenance........Hoses, belt, etc...

The radiator airflow was ducted out the side of the truck with metal ducting and a louvre

The fuel pump itself has a filter in the bottom of it on most and gets ignored. I think it is a Bendix pump and that style goes back many years...

If I had a choice I'd definitely have a DKD rather than the modern unit...

Figured I would post here instead of a new thread. I have a Onan 4000 genset. I think it just ate the flywheel or starter teeth off. Gonna drop it this week to investigate. Where is the best place to order these parts?

Keith without model information I can't tell you much. Old style 4kw units are completely different from newer style. Onan's have never had flywheel teeth issues. Starters yes. I assume your talking about an RV unit. Parts are easy to get from Cummins or some other suppliers. Parts for Techs is a good source online. They sell Onan parts. Or I can get you anything you need and ship it to you.

BGE. Old style flathead twin engine. Starter is in the back and they do go bad. 2 bolts, 1 wire and it comes out. Drive might have failed. That's an oldie. 1998. Part number label is probably still right on it. 191- xxxx We don't keep many parts on the shelf for those. They have been out of production since about 2001. I'll look the part number up tomorrow for a starter.

Keith the starters on those are behind the aluminum generator end in the back. If you can reach back in there you can get to the starter. One issue....the nuts that the starter bolts go into are loose in the housing. They sit in little hex shaped recesses. If they fall out the job gets tougher. Not impossible but tough to get to. 2 bolts and one wire. Starter comes right out. Putting it back in is when the nuts can drop out as you try to start the bolts into the threads. Here is what I do.......get some very sticky wheel bearing grease. Stick it on your finger and get it on the back side of the nuts. The grease will hold the nuts from falling out. Once you get the starter out, grease them again. Old trick I use all the time...

You can replace just the drive but I'd replace the starter complete. Just look at the flywheel teeth once the starter is out. You can turn the machine over by hand with an Allen wrench at the generator end. With the spark plugs out it turns over very easy...

Easiest place to get Onan parts other than me handing them to you at a race is here....
