Steve, my guess is the computer chip issue has inventories low, so they're wanting them to re-sale? I suggest that, because my dealer is hoping I'll sale my 2021 Colorado back to them, because they have none of them on their lots.....not happening! The eastern half of the country (and the northwestern tracks), will sooner see it towing "Shark Bait" to some of it's race tracks (especially in those nor-eastern or midwestern tracks), than a dealership will have it on their lot!!!

My neighbor works at a very large GMC dealer---said its about 400 or so vehicles affected so far --its the L5P engine i think he said--- problems with engines hydro locking or leaking head/block issues--- Aluminum heads don't mate properly with block causing coolant leakage- and or the blocks are bad castings-- That engine it's a collaboration between GM and Isuzu--It's not the head gasket its the block and the head themselves--- cheaper to do a buy back than it is to replace the engine for $15-20,000 and hope you got it right--- kinda like what Ford went thru with "their own" diesels in the 04-08 after they stopped using the International 7.3's--- FED 387

The number of recalled vehicles is unknown.
It is a Duramax engine issue and as part of the buyback, is replacing the vehicle with a 2022 model. The problem is that due to the chip supply chain issue, some of the truck features and options will be disabled.

The problem with “buybacks” is that it does not mean that they are going to cut you a check in the amount of what you paid for your vehicle. The dealership is actually offering to take your vehicle back, as a trade-in for another car. It does not work out to your benefit, especially if you owe more on your vehicle than it is worth. The dealership will want to roll the loan negative equity into your new car loan. Only a few states in the US such as California and Washington force the return of your down payment, all the payments you have made, and any out-of-pocket expenses.

I have a question some of you may know the answer to. If you accept the buyback and take a 2022 truck. That has some of the features locked out due to the chip shortage. At some point down the road. Will we be able to take the truck in to get a new ECM, BCM or whatever module is needed? To make the stuff work. Once the Chips become available. Or are they just there but don’t work and never will?

We just got a 2022 Chevy Equinox on Monday--- It has factory installed heated seats--- they built the vehicle with everything EXCEPT the "chip" consequently the heated seats are inoperable BUT we got a $50 credit on the purchase price at the time of sale AND when the chips become available it will be 'Retro Fitted " at no cost to me. Splves the problem for me I hope I don't need heated seats til next fall----As far as the Duramax issue they flat out said "you may get a different MINUS some of the features you have on your current vehicle--- wether that is a chip problem or something else I do not know the answer-- I suppose you are going to have to work it out with GM--I f GM takes your vehicle back they will either scrap the vehicle out OR maybe donate it to Vocational or technical schools for their classroom education classes in any event IT WILL NEVER GO BACK ON THE STREET---FED 387

Would not be surprised if it becomes a class action lawsuit.
