69 camaro rear rim size
So.... I blew it big time, lol
I would’ve sworn my old rims were 10” wide with 4.5 back spacing. After installing the new rims it was clear I have a big problem and the old rims were only 9’s. Now the tires is maybe 1/4” from the quarter where I had ton of room with the old set up. Thankfully the guys from sanders are gonna help me out but I’m not sure what I should do...... Keeping in mind I have -1” springs in the rear and it sits fairly low. Should I go with 9” and keep the 4.5bs or should I keep the 10” wide wheel and go with 5”bs?? |

Stick with the 10" if you can. You may have to either trim or fold up the lip on the quarter panel. How much clearance is on inside of the wheel well? The rim width will affect the bulge on the slick as well.

Re: 69 camaro rear rim size
Lip is already folded.
If I stay with the 10” and a 5bs I’ll have about 1/2” clearance between the inner tub and the quarter. Is that enough?? I guess my other option is going to a stock higher spring?? |

Get the hammer or saw out. Shane.
Don’t forget basis ply tire grown. Much more clearance needed Not like a dragster.

1/2 may be enough, although it might rub when you turn. Keep in mind if you need to add weight in the trunk it will sit even lower. I actually had to beat in the inner wheel house at the bottom edge. Just need to get creative with a dead blow hammer! A little bit here and there helps.

Re: 69 camaro rear rim size
For what it's worth......I've had a "few" (L-O-L) first gen Camaros over the years and it's been my experience you have to trim the leading and the trailing edges of the fenders to make it all fit nicely with a 28 to 30-inch tall tire. This way, you can lower the ride height by quite a bit with no issues of tire rub (provided the wheel backspace is correct). In my old cars, I'd get the body shop to cut out a "V" shaped section at the front and the rear and then weld it back together. That will likely be painful in your case because the car looks like it's nicely painted

Re: 69 camaro rear rim size
I don't know that I have a 1/2" clearance on my Nova. I always run radials so growth isn't an issue.
I have done a little clearancing, and there is a nice track mark on the outside lip where my carbide grabbed and got away from me.

Thanks for the responses!! Think I have a plan moving forward. With a little work on the inner well I think the 10” rim with 5” bs will work, I also have some 1/4 spacers if need be. It does look like I’m gonna have to switch out to the stock hight spring. |

Re: 69 camaro rear rim size
If you run spacers, use some good billet ones. Good luck. Looking forward to seeing the car out.

Re: 69 camaro rear rim size
With all due respect to those who responded, check out Scott Gove's Camaro as it sits very low on the rear tires.
