Default Crate Motor question

I'm familiar with Stock Eliminator cars but am putting together a crate motor combination and had a couple questions. I've searched this forum, as well as the IHRA web site, and still had some questions. My car is a '94 Z28 (hardtop stick car) that I'm going to put a 350/330/340 Vortec motor in.

1. What class(es) will this fall in and what will my race weights be? I know it is a natural B or C car with the LT1.

2. Are roller rockers permitted? I have a set of GM LT4 SA 1.6 rockers that I picked up somewhere.

3. Who would be some good sources to contact about having a nice set of heads done? I am going to do the shortblock myself.

Thanks for any help! I really appreciate it. Scott

I just Re freshed one of my crate mtr customers 385 fast burn. When I originally did it we had to use the stamped steel rockers. They were a constant problem. It is now legal to use roller rockers in IHRA on Crate Mtrs & stockers.

Gear Jammer,

I "think" this is the formula, if others see a flaw in my math, please speak up. Go to the NHRA site[IHRA uses these numbers], under "rules" pull down and select "stock car classification"

The lightest weight showing for a 1994 Camaro is 3044 pounds. [in IHRA, you can use the lightest NHRA weight, although you can also use the heavier weight] So, your Iron Vortec head engine is rated at 330 horse but factored to 340 horse. Here is the formula: 340 divided into 3044 = 8.95 pounds per horsepower. The class breaks are in 1/2 pound increments so you can run the car at the top of the 8.5 - 8.99 class. Also, you can move up one class to the 8.0 - 8.49 class, or down one class to the 9.0 - 9.49 class.
Thus:
8.0 x 340 = 2720 + 170 driver allowance = 2890. [probably would not get that light]
8.5 x 340 = 2890 + 170 = 3060 [maybe]
9.0 x 340 = 3060 + 170 = 3230 [most likely fit]

Then, what ever Crate Motor class runs at 9 pounds is your fit.

Unless I'm missing it, I can't find anything on the IHRA web page. What class would be the 9 pound one? The car is going to be very light and I think 3230 would be a nice weight. With a Jerico do you think this will be a good combination?

I think your 94 Camaro with the Iron Vortec head with a stick would be great. That cylinder head is a strong runner. Plus, the F body 3rd & 4th generation are both proven performers.
