Metric 200 lock up trans?
Can a regular 200 be converted to a lock up design? If not how can you tell from the outside of trans that it is a lock up style.

Of course , adding that weight to a SB converter, would be a wash, at best, IMO Edit..Jim Mantle: That would be the LH side (driver's) behind the shift shft, unless you had it in a clamp fixture in front of the bench ;-)

Re: Metric 200 lock up trans?
I think some of the fast guys are probably running lock up convertors along with steep gearing and a 7 or 8 inch convertor but you're not going to get them or anyone to talk about it..

Re: Metric 200 lock up trans?
The lock up trans if I understand correctly has the tag on the side that is labeled 200C--- also if you look at the input shaft you will see a small straight shaft on the very front appx 5/8" Dia and 1-1/4"long

Re: Metric 200 lock up trans?
Can a race transmission be built out of a 200C that originally had the lock up converter? They are not as hard to find as the non lock up torque converter TH200 units.

Re: Metric 200 lock up trans?
I was informed and shown by a former GM transmission engineer that the TH200, Oldsmobile diesel engine powered cars have a beefier case. He had both a standard gasoline engine case and a diesel powered case next to each other. The diesel case was beefier and thicker and also has the universal bell housing pattern. The diesel case was also heavier.

Some guys like the earlier pump design in the non-L/U model, and some like to use as new as possible.. I never saw much difference, and have built plenty of both styles.
