Re: world champ
No. I think you had to win the world finals in those years, still.

Re: world champ
Just in case somebody ever reads this thread & doesn't know who Charlene Wood is, I'll post this, with some pics.
Gary Wood Had built quite a few Pontiac Stockers, with mixed success. Said he had built & sold lots of '68 Birds. Then he hit on a very competitive combo. It was a '72 Lemans wagon, with 455HO power. He actually built 2 of these wagons. One had the GTO type front cap, which I think Pontiac called a T-41 option. Gary said they also had good results running the D-port 455 engine. Both Gary & his wife Charlene drove the wagons. Charlene did a lot of winning. She went across the border & won the Grandnationals one year. The last half of this article tells most of the story. https://www.motortrend.com/features/...ntiac-history/ Charlene was voted into the div one Hall of Fame, in 2019 ! Hey, she's another of my Pontiac heroes ! https://www.nhradiv1.com/content/div...166&zoneid=165 A quick scan of the div 1 H-of-F list shows Pontiac racers Phil Monteith, Sam Biondo, & Phil Szupka. George Cureton also ran "Rocky's Goat" for a little while. Some others on the list may have run a Pontiac. Not familiar with all the names. |
