I've never seen one but from what I understand it is an actual 904 with the small 2nd gear servo and 3 pinion planetaries, not the V8 998 or 999 that most guys use to make race car transmissions out of.

The transmission was available in 1981 to 1982 Jeep Mail Trucks powered by the 151 Iron Duke engine and was also used in 1980 to 1983 in the Jeep CJ-8, CJ-7 and CJ-5 with the Iron Duke engine. The transmission is a TF-904 with a BOP bellhousing.

I bought one years ago. It looked fragile and decided it was not worth the cash or the effort.

What little bit I know, which normally ain't alot. Larry Morgan tested one in his Firebird the last year he ran SS before he went to Comp. The negative of it as I remember was the flair up on the 1-2 shift due to the small servo. And Roy Johnson built one up wanting to try in the Opel C/EA he was driving but I don't think the owner had the same vision.

That case was also in AMC cars with the GM 4 cylinder engine 81 to 84 years . I bought one for the 2.75 low gear set that they came with. Sold the case to somebody in CO on EBAY Case should take all the 904 upgrade stuff. A certain 4 cyl econo dragster was very fast back in the day with that setup!
