Default anyone familiar with Chicago/Joliet area

My friend Pete Peery is the Div. 4 rep for the Allstars (Super Stock). Due to some unbreakable commitments he will be unable to leave in time to drive to the race. I will drive the rig up there and he will fly into ? I understand there are two airports in the Chicago area. Which one is closest to the track and how far away. Also what motels are near the track. Thanks for any help.

Gary

Closest airport to the track would be Midway. Also much easier to "work with" than O'Hare. Kinda the home airport for Southwest, so think about using them. A number of hotels and motels relatively close to the track, but don't shop by price, because Joliet is not a very nice city and the cheap motels will be inhabited by creatures you won't want to interact with. In other words, pay a little extra and you won't get mugged or spend the night listening to jungle drums.

Try for Midway if you can. I would go North on Cicero Ave. to I55 to get out of the neighborhood. Unless you really want to soak up some of the local flavor. Just kidding. It looks like racer rates are in effect in Joliet, Bolingbrook, and Tinley Park sites. A quick search on Travelocity shows the Red Roof in Willowbrook is $75.00 In a good area, right off I55, and a block away from Portillos. If you want a Chicago hot dog, or burger or an Eyetalian Beef, that is the place to go. It is about a half hour from the track. If you need to park the rig before or after the race, just let me know. Our shop is in Joliet.

motel 6 at I55 north joliet was at about $90 +a day or so ago most of the better places will be in the $90 ISH to $125 or so if not more per night--lots of places along I 55 north side of Joliet and I 80 east and west side of Joliet especially near Hollywood Casino exit- the track is South of exit 132 on I 80 about 3-4 miles down at the corner of Larraway Road and Rt 66 (Chicago Avenue) also look in Morris Illinois about 18-20 miles west on I 55--stay away from motels at Larkin Avenue and I 80 in Joliet "colorful area"not the nicest area to be in.Rooms are cheap there but crappy area-- Bolingbrook is awfully far away so is Lockpport---Wilmington and Frankfort I know nothing about

I stayed at a motel on Larkin Ave. ONCE. There was a hold-up the gas station when I was there, so I stayed east of the track after that, Mokena-Frankfort area. Lock your stuff up tight!

Midway is probably easier if you don't know your way around but either Ohare or Midway is about 45-50- miles from the track ---allow at least 1 hour 30 min minimum to get from the airport to the track unless its rush hour then all bets are off !!!! If you are going to pick him up allow 3-4 hours to go there pick him up and return to the track---its close to over a hundred miles round trip either airport---FED 387

Yeah... any night of the week, stay at the motel on the Northwest corner of the intersection of I-80 and Larkin and you'll see exactly what I mean.
