Default The EPA at it Again

My wife just sent me this e-mail from the office of State of Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette's responding to another EPA law regarding modifying cars for racing purposes. The tree huggers will keep picking at the race industry until they get their way. I am glad the State of Michigan has a guy like Bill Schuette in our corner to fight this draconian type of legislation.

Schuette Opposes EPA Rule Expansion Limiting Engine Modifications On Racing Vehicles

Burdensome rule will hinder Michigan’s racing industry

LANSING – Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette today announced he is joining Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and other attorneys general on a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency asking them to remove burdensome language from a proposed rule expansion that states motor vehicle engines and their emission control devices must remain in their certified configuration, even if they are nonroad or racing vehicles.

The rule states that motor vehicles’ engines and emission control devices must remain in their standard configuration “even if they are used solely for competition,” which is in direct conflict with the Federal Clean Air Act which excludes vehicles built or modified for racing purposes from regulation.

“Racing is a tradition in America and Michigan is home to a thriving racing community,” said Schuette. “In addition to race tracks and demolition derbies across the state, this rule would affect businesses whose livelihood is manufacturing and selling competition engines and racing products that could be deemed illegal under this rule change. There is little doubt the rule change will impact jobs and tax revenue and threaten Michigan’s rebounding economy.”

Schuette noted that automobiles and the racing industry are an important segment of Michigan’s economy.

The new rule would have a significant impact on the industry both in Michigan and across the country. In 2014, consumers in the United States spent $36 billion on automotive specialty equipment parts accessories. The rule would make many of the products manufactured by this billion dollar industry illegal to produce, sell and install. As a result, the proposed EPA rule would affect tens of thousands of jobs across the country and in Michigan.
