Default RV Generators Onan vs Generac (4KW)

Any feedback on Generac Generators? I have always been an Onan fan (good to know Matt) and I am considering a newer RV that has a Generac 4KW in it which concerns me. If you know of any history they may have please reply. Thanks! Is it April yet?

Thumbs up Re: RV Generators Onan vs Generac (4KW)

I had a Motor Home with a 7000 Onan, and I had ZERO problems with it ! I also have a Generac in my trailer which is a 4500 watt surge, 4000 constant, again, not a problem ! Just recently I bought a new Generac 7500 constant, 9500 surge, w/electric start, and is just kick butt , for my home garage ! It's a horse apiece ! Both great to take my abuse !.....John

I had a small problem with my Generac back about 13 years ago( when I was using it) and the customer service sucked. Might not be that way today. It sure made me "think" about my brand loyalty. Other than that small electrical problem (when cut off with wall switch it wouldn't re start) it performed well.

I have onan generators in both my toter and trailer. 8K diesel in the toter and 4k gas in the trailer. The trailer generator is so old it says Onan division of Studebaker on the ID plate. This is late 50's early 60's vintage. Runs great and real quiet. I have had this generator since 1990 in 2 different trailers. Burns about 1/2 gallon an hour. The diesel generator burns much less fuel. You can find the older Onan RV type generators on Craigs list all of the time. They are very reliable.
