New tow vehicle recommendations

With the government set to give incentives to new vehicle buyers ,what would you suggest for a new tow vehicle. I will be towing a 28 ' Pace with 3800 lb car, no golf cart or extra stuff. thanks Lyn

you don't get any incentives unless the vehicle you buy gets over 18 combined city/highway mpg.

any trucks over 1/2 ton aren't rated for fuel economy anyway, so they are excluded.

the government is only giving you the incentive to buy a car that would fit in the bed of your tow vehicle!

I have been looking at new trucks lately......figured maybe GM would be offering some real good deals.....So far I have not been given any good prices even with some rebates considering the times we are in. Gas engined well equipped pickups like what I have now are close to $40K on the sticker and sell for $32K to $34K with the incentives. No Zero percent on HD trucks....Diesels are $50 grand for just about anything....I have a '96 GMC and bought it new.....It's getting pretty rusty in a lot of areas......has been a great truck overall but I am wanting a new one......I will be patient and wait for a better deal..........

the cash for clunkers article I cut out of the paper says pre 2002 work trucks in the 8500-10,000 class can receive a $3500-$4500 voucher if traded in on a same class, or smaller truck.I have a worn out 89 3/4 ton suburban I need to get rid of.I will go down to the local GMC dealer and act interested and see what they say.

..or, 6.1 cummins Dodge or the Ford diesel.....in these days I wonder how long we can rely on GM to be around to repair the Duramax. Maybe it's just me but I would stick with a dually.

Just got back from the local GMC dealer.Didnt sound to excited about the cash for clunkers deal.they explained they will have to wait quite a while to get their money from the government.You would think that if anyone walked in and showed interested in buying a new vehicle, they would be all over you.They also explained that you must have owned ,and insured the vehicle for a year previous,and that it will be crushed.

What will be your total towing weight? Is it a double or triple axle trailer?
Tow a 28' Alu. triple axle enclosed, w/ similar car and use a dually/crew cab. Agree that the dually is needed for what you can encounter on the HWY.
Longer wheelbase is better. I also changed tires on trailer and tow vehicle to top of the line, Mich. "Ribs" (matching mud/snows on rear of dually), they help stabilize/control trailer.

I would suggest the biggest tow vehicle you can afford.

I bought a 04 C4500 brand new in 05. Only paid 41500 for it. Back then 1 tons were the same price. I do have a 26 mpg car that I drive everyday.

They are a small dealership that sells numbers similar to highway stores. People purchase from them from all over so don't think you're too far away to make it work.

Be aware that the GM truck plant is being shut down for a while. Trucks will not be spilling out all over but Kathy will do her best to find the truck you need at a great price.
