oil pan rule question
I'm slowly putting together my first stocker (N/SA 5.0 mustang). I have a question about the rules regarding oil pans. As stated, you can use a windage tray or scraper combo with an OEM or NHRA approved replacement. However, does the "modifications of any kind prohibited" statement include placing baffles, trap doors, or adding capacity to a stock oem pan?

Re: oil pan rule question
You can do anything inside an OEM pan that you want, but your "adding capacity" will get your butt into a sling.

Re: oil pan rule question
Thanks for the reply. One last small question - I assume massaging the pan with a couple of small dents for tray clearance is okay?

Re: oil pan rule question
Look at an MPG windage tray/scraper and you won't need to dent your oil pan. www.mpgheads.com

Re: oil pan rule question
I called Steff's a few years ago. They couldn't help but brag about their "deep sump" option for stock class andf how everybody had this option (welded, smoothed with bondo, painted). They even started naming names! And one of them was a competitor of mine. Or at least one of them...

Re: oil pan rule question
The added capacity issue is no longer an issue. Stock is now allowed to run accumulators. Throw 5-6 quarts in a 4 quart pan with a 3 quart accumulator and you will have 2-3 in the pan once the accumulator is full.

Re: oil pan rule question
Canton makes a stock eliminator oil pan, part# 13-600 . I think several 5.0 stocker racer's use these.
