cleaning laum trans cases
Anybody got a good way to clean all the crud from the outside of aluminum trans cases??? Just picked up some donor Powerglides with lots of crud on the outside---would like to make them look like new castings --anybody know how to do it ??? baking- blasting or what ??? thanx comp 387

Get them fairly warm (150 degrees or so if possible). Soak them down several times with oven cleaner, so that the crud is saturated completely. High pressure wash them. That should get them fairly clean, but old fashioned hand labor may be required, and you may have to repeat the process. Any removal of the thick stuff before soaking and washing will help. Eagle One etching aluminum wheel cleaner will remove a lot of the stains, once you get the crud off.

See what a local tranny shop would charge, may not be more when you take in the time and material it takes to clean the tranny, Henry.

I actually used to use this stuff and it worked really well. It's a lot more non-toxic. I'd brush it and then power wash it. And no I don't sell it. |

thanx for the replies--anybody ever tried soda blasting aluminum cases??? I have seen heads and blocks done this way look awfully good when finished---Comp 387
