timing light update
As an experiment, I bought a new MSD #8992 timing light. The good news is that it is much, much brighter than the 40-year-old model. With the old model, the marks were not visible in direct sunlight. The new model shows the marks easily visible in direct sun. My take is that the performance of the old light did, in fact, degrade over time.

Re: timing light update
The 8992 is the 12v powered unit that looks like the old Ferrets that MSD rebranded and sold for years.
I have heard a variety of stories...MSD has the lights made just for them. Someone else is building them. MSD bought the light manufacturing from Ferret. The new MSD lights are cheap copies.etc., etc...none of which may be the truth. Either way, they are good lights. |
