Default Max Speed/under carb throttle atops.

My build is almost ready. I've used a linkage stop in past but I want to upgrade. The APD Max Speed carb is my first choice, 2nd would be their carb and plenum stop but I'm weary of the fuel going through the stop. This is the set up Luke Bogacki is running which gives me a little more confidence. 3rd choice would be 1# Stop and probably a APD, ATM or Stinnett 1050 carb. This set up is for a Super Street/Hot Rod car 505 BBC. Curious as to what other guys are running especially the Max Speed. ThanX

Most I know that were running the Max speed have long sold it and those that I know running APD engines have their plate stop, NOT the Max speed.

I run a #1 electric stop and ATM carb on both my S/C dragster and S/ST Firebird

APD tends to push Max Speed carbs that are way too large for the engine application. I borrowed a early Max Speed 1050 a few years ago and had great success with it on a 582 engine . When I had them build me one they sent one that was much larger in CFM ,the consistency was not there and it had to be run at a much higher cruise RPM.
I now use a Stinnett baseplate stop from Number 1 Stop and a ATM carb built for my combination. Deadly consistent and absolutely the best fuel curve I've ever seen while on the stop. ATM also makes an excellent baseplate stop.

Tom Goldman I've watched the Stinnett videos on Luke Bogacki's site and the smaller carb theory seems the way to go. Brian at ATM was very helpful and so was Joey at APD. Since its a large $$ purchase, I only want to make it once..lol!! I still need a data logger also.

Phil , going from a 1150 carb to the ATM 1050 I only lost about 1 -11/2 mph and I made that back up by being able to run a lower cruise rpm .

Order a Stinnett carb and then call Gary Heuer at Number stop to get a throttle stop. Gary Heuer is a great asset and so helpful.

Same here on both my cars.

I don't subscribe to the smaller carb theory and we have done very well.

I recently purchased a billet stop from #1 Stop.. it has all the bells and whistles as the Stinnet and APD stops.. Gary is great to deal with, will pre-set your stop to your combination, and will save you money over the other brands.. I also found the billet #1 Stop to have a bit more consistency over the #1 Cast Stop, which is also good if you don't want to spend for the billet stop.. #1 STOP is highly recommended..

I’ve been running the max speed for a while. It takes time to get the jet/restrictors tuned but it’s deadly once you get it.
