I have a nutty friend that I go racing with that takes the white lettering off of his tires too, he uses Afta, I wont tell you who he is but he runs a blue Camaro with a wicked EFI 305 motor.

I leave mine on untill they start looking bad then a little brake clean ( non clorinated) on a rag takes the rest off with a quick wipe.

Just like Rob said...non-chlorinated brake cleaner works well. It also works well in removing grease stains from carpets and rug material. The non-chlorinated brake cleaner is the same stuff used by dry cleaners on your clothing.

Thumbs up Re: Removing White Letters from slicks.....

Thinner works. I have a tip for you guys on cleaning your tires too. First before you spray any water on the car...( I use Westley's bleach white or Wal-Mart's tec 2000 wheel cleaner) spray cleaner on dry tire & wheel. Then with an old sponge dipped in the soapy water & wash the tire & wheel...the black shxx will just roll off the tire! I then lay the sponge on the ground & rinse with garden hose as to not dirty my wash water...makes the tires look brand new!
