Back in the early-mid 70`s I used to own a 65 Plymouth Valiant Signet with a 235HP 273 "Commando and a 4 speed. It had the small 7 1/4" (2.91 posi, I believe), that didn`t last very long at all.I knew a couple of other guys with similar 66 Valiants, and their cars all had the 8 3/4" rearend. Since I had 1 laying around, I swapped in a 9" from a 59 Ford station Wagon instead, which bolted in. These cars also had a tiny 9 " clutch and that weird "ball & trunion" driveshaft. At least the driveshaft flange kept the fluid inside the trans during the frequent clutch replacements! Throw in MoPars left and right threaded wheel studs and lug nuts,& tiny drum brakes,& it`s no wonder I went to Fords!
