Early Nova Front Suspension
I've a 65 Chevy II that is very loose on the top end (1/8th). Moroso front springs CE 3way front shocks. The car keeps it's nose up all the way down the track. With this attitude the front tires toe in badly causing the car to waver left and right. I know that some of the SS guys can make these cars work better. Does anyone have any modifications that they can devulge to stabilize them high speed?

Re: Early Nova Front Suspension
After you have the proper alignment at "ride height" (finish line height), you may need to fabricate a stronger front suspension. There is considerable flex with the oem pieces. Especially the tie rod ends.
See if you can find a larger oem (od) replacement center link. They are available by Moog ( I think). Remove the factory tie rods and replace them with chrome moly round tube with heim ends. Modify the centerlink with 1/2 plate where the original tie rod would bolt onto (slight machining necessary). Then, attach the heim end to the 1/2 plate (about a 1 1/2"x 2" plate) and then attach the other end to the assembly. This fabrication took the "radial wobble" out of my super stocker. Give Gary Wisecarver a call. He is the chassis fabricator who made these adjustments. 434/332-4511. Hope this helps. Ronnie, Jr. |

Re: Early Nova Front Suspension
Something is loose or out of alignment here. If it were toed in that bad, it should scrub, but not wander. If it is toed out, then that would be a real handful with the wander too. You might try jacking the car up to sit like it does under power and check it. Ronnie is right, there are better parts to use if you can legally do so. Our car will go 115-123 depending upon the class with basically modified stocker stuff. It goes very straight and smooth. Global West has a lot to offer in this area too.

Re: Early Nova Front Suspension
Check your steering box and pitman arm for wear. these two parts are usually the items that cause the early novas to wander. I can help you out with parts if you need them. 815 844 7852 nights Lyn

Re: Early Nova Front Suspension
Toe in causes scrub, not wander, as others have stated. You need about 1/8" toe in at the ride height it has at the finish line, and it needs about 2-3 degrees of positive caster. All of your front suspension needs to be fresh, not worn, and it needs to be the good heavy duty stuff. The car should be aligned with the front end at the height it runs at, and with your weight in the seat.

Re: Early Nova Front Suspension
Early Nova's have horrible front ends and must have good front suspension stuff. Also get someone wo is good to do front end alignment. I always forget what they are called but the two front bars that go diagnle to front rad support/subframe are important to check. Most people never replace or check wear on those.
