Back some years ago at Sonoma. Nat'l....Westley bounced me in Tech for having bent my choke rod a bit so it did not restrict my primary Air Flow so much.

He then rechecked it in line before first round to make sure the bends were
exactly correct!

Now if they'll just turn Wesley loose, make his word final, and give him the necessary resources........

As Bob said,...maybe in a year or so.
So they're going to do a spot check....after 3rd round of eliminations...with an entire day of eliminations to get done ..to see if he took his choke plate out? C'mon Mark I was referring to the initial tech Insp. The tech guy's aren't just there to catch people cheating They are there to answer questions concerning some of these items that maybe aren't clear in the rule book . Anyway he has his answer now and that's good

Back in 95 at the Summers in E Town I was pitted at the far end of the spectator side as there were about 140 cars in stock and after winning 3rd round that Sunday afternoon we were told we had about a half hour to cool and be in the lanes for 4th round, temp was in the high 80s. I was heading around the outer lane to cross over to the spectator side when Wesley stopped me and thought it would be a great time to spend 20 minutes going through my carbs as well as other things. I had just enough time to reach my pit and fuel up and when I reached the staging lanes I was near boiling over. I had a great light and the better by far but the car died in high gear due to overheating and I ran a tenth off my dial flat out. I'll always remember Wesley.

Tech can look any time for a spot check. Engine, fuel, wires, brakes, drive shaft, e-shift, and my favorite, the search for loose weight.

Tech in my opinion does two major things at the track: Help keep all of us safe by looking at our safety equipment. Making it mean something when win or loose a heads up race, or any race, by enforcing the rules.

I think they love the sport as much as we racers do.

After reading this thread, now I know why efi cars are so fast! They don't have a choke flap! lol

AND...…..

They don't do an initial tech inspection at National Events.

Since the driver is responsible for the car being legal and the driver has to race at Divisional Events to enter National Events. Therefore NHRA makes the assumption that the car will be legal at National Events.

Borrow a car to race at a National Event and you might get a suspension for something you had no knowledge of.

It's happened before.

What? We have been teched at every div or natl before we can make a qualifying pass since we started doing this. Whether it be in the lanes or somewhere else. Hood open, hatch open, both doors open, tech card, nhra membership, jacket, and helmet in hand. Ready to answer a question and ready to correct something they dont like.

Did they look at anything other than safety equipment????

That's not a tech inspection that's the NHRA trying to avoid a lawsuit in case you are injured.

Getting "teched in" does not automatically make your racecar legal....
