Thumbs up Race #2 & #3 Moved To Lakeland Dragstrip!!

Due to a schedule change with Bradenton Motorsports Park and right on the heels of a very successful points race #1 at Orlando Speed World, May 26 & 27, 2012 will see the SSSSA return to Lakeland Dragstrip for points race #2 & 3! This is where it all began for the SSSSA! This will be a two day, two race weekend. There will be a $1000 dollar to win bracket race Saturday evening after our race that our racers are encouraged to enter. Sunday there will also be a bracket race sponsored by the track that our racers will be able to enter. Jim Woods and I visited the track and met with the new owner and manager. the improvements the new owner has made is very visible and I'm sure everyone will be pleased with all the changes. New starting line that HOOKS! New bathrooms. The tower and track have been painted and upgraded. New track equipment. All new wiring an brand new clocks and timing equipment. Ample staff and EMT/Fire unit on duty. Lakeland Dragstrip has just been sanctioned back with the IHRA and will host a Division two ProAm race next year. Gates open at 9am on Saturday, 10am on Sunday. $15 per head at the gate. At least two Q passes and a cleanup. The usual $50 to race with 100% payback.

Jim,

Thats great to hear. Lakeland has been real supportive of our association since the beginng. Nice to have a IHRA pro-am there next year as well. Kinda dissapointed that we are not racing at Bradenton. Thats a great track and would be nice to keep on our schedule. I do like the 1/8 mile races for our program. Its a little easire on the parts.

That is a real bummer, I was really looking forward to Bradenton. I like Lakeland too, especially with the new improvements that you spoke of. Only thing I don't like is the 1/8 racing. Though my car is a good 1/8 mile car, I'd rather run the 1/4, gives me a little advantage over them fast cars, which is just about all of them, except maybe for Harry.

But I guess it doesn't matter as I heard that Bradenton was only going to run the 1/8 anyway. A lot of folks like to run Bradenton, it's a nice track, to bad things did not work out. Well, I guess it's Bradenton's loss.

We will see your smiling faces at Lakeland, saw a lot of names in the standings sheet that I do not know. Looking forward to meeting you all and associate the name to the face.

We are adding a secret herb to the beans for a unique flavor, don't panic, you'll be able to walk and talk at the same time. See ya all there.

I know what you mean Ron. I was looking forward to Bradenton also. But we really were not given a choice. Management decided to scrap Sunday and wanted to do both of our races on Saturday along with the big bracket and Jr. dragster race they had planned. Just wasn't Gunna happen! Would have been a huge cluster. I really think we will have a great couple of races and a lot of fun at Lakeland though. We will have the whole track to ourselves Saturday until 5 PM! You won't believe the changes! With the schedule completed everyone can make plans for the rest of the year. Jim and I are very excited about the rest of the year! Jim

Oh boy, 1/8th mile is going to be a challenge with my slow spooling turbo. But I need to work on my lights (and see if Ed cured the car of it's hiccup problem) so I'll be there!
:/

Oh come on! That little car ran more than -.80 under for me in the 1/8th! Get out there and thrash girl! Those small Mitsu turbos are called "quick spool" turbos. That car should be at full boost about 10 feet out. We really need to talk at the race. If you want to go test sometime I would be glad to come help. I love that car! Jim

Red face Re: Race #2 & #3 Moved To Lakeland Dragstrip!!

Not 100% sure if I'll make it yet, but anyone have any motel recommendations to stay at (or not to) around Lakeland or East on I-4? PM's welcome if someone doesn't want to post any bad spots.

I never realized what a straight shot it was to the Lakeland from Daytona, and just off of
I-4!

Been trying to tell for years now Myronie! It's half a mile off off I4 on 33.
The next exit West has several nice inexpensive motels. I used to stay there before I got the motorhome. I don't remember the name but there are several name brands there. Jim

Timing was usually off because of conflicting race dates. But too much going on for a trip to San Antonio this weekend and may skip the Mopar race at SGMP as well.

As for motels, I checked them all out online. But I'd rather hear first-hand accounts from "real" people I know as opposed to some of the online reviews. Online reviews can range from "perfect" to needing an armed escort or a hazmat suit to stay there! lol
