Red face SS/GT Big block Chevy intake

Guys can any one tell me if a Dart intake will out perform a Victor jr. in the 4000 rpm to 7000 rpm. I am running a set of 781 oval ports heads. and should it have a 4150 hat ? or a dominator hat ? I run a rochester Q jet with a adapter plate. looking for 10 to 15 more hp.

Thanks

Anthony, FYI, not running a super stock GT engine but rather a bracket engine, Brodix oval port headed 522 BBC topped with a Vic jr. and 4150 carb that is launched at 4200, shifted at 74 and 7600 and traps at 8000 RPM and their ain't a n/a 540, 555, 565 or 572 in a similar weight back halved car that I am aware of that can touch it, competing in Division 1 Brackets, some of which run the Dart manifold and all of which run a dominator.

Odds are this is a 454 powered SS/GT car, since that's the most common place to find a 781 head. I'd look at an oval port Strip Dominator, or stick with the Victor Jr. 454-O. But it needs to go to a good shop to be properly modified. And unless your intake is a serious handicap, I'm not sure you'll find 15HP. The correct intake, properly modified, is going to cost you $1K or more, and if the heads aren't up to the task, it won't help much. I wouldn't use a Dominator flange, the plenum may need to be deeper, and/or longer, but it doesn't need to be wider.

Anthony the work that needs to be done to the intake costs $600. The Strip Dominator works well with the right mods and its the manifold I used on my 11:1 cast iron oval port(215 castings) headed 468 that made north of 700HP

but I do agree if the heads are not right you're wasting your time, focusing your efforts on the intake. FYI, the plenum needs to be shallower not deeper.

The combo is a 454 big block with a victor jr intake 4150 flange and a Q jet.the 781 heads and intake were hand ported. made ok hp but looking for more. Who dose the intakes ? On the 1/2 inch adapter spacer that gose from the Q jet to the intake should any mods be done to the rear of it where the butter flys open? and are you saying i should run a dominator flanged intake?

thanks guys this is all greek to me im a driver that knows how to turn on a win light.

NO!

As to the intake work, their are numerous head porters and engine builders capable of doing the necessary work, some however are very proud of their work and their price reflects it though the additional $ won't get you an additional .01 on the time slip. That said, my advice is to call Larry Woodward aka Brandywine Cylinder Head Service. Back in the day, long before the internet and cnc'd aluminum heads, he was the guy with factory cast iron heads and he along with his step son Bruce MacDowell(deceased) have done the heads and manifolds of many fast/quick and record setting stock/super stock combos as well he has been doing my manifolds and heads for years.
