Default NHRA 2020 Rule Amendment SS Intakes???

Was just looking at the new NHRA 2020 Rule Book amendment prohibiting spacers between the intake and the cylinder head.

They already allow sheet metal intakes and also two piece intake manifolds split in the middle in the class so what is the difference in having a spacer between the intake and cylinder head?

This will effect many cars including Mopar 383 with Chevy intakes, Ford FE with 351C intakes and AMC with Mopar intakes running spacers to fit these intakes.

This has more to do with heads than intake manifolds.

You mean adapters?

I don't see anything prohibiting an extremely thick, metallic-core intake gasket.

An MLS Head gasket is essentially a spacer with a gasket on each side when you get into the thicker gaskets (.050"+). How is a "metallic-core" intake gasket any different?

Weld the spacer to the intake?

This has more to do with lazy engine "assemblers" than anything!

It was a joke, a-la "that isn't a spacer, Mr. Tech Guy. It's just a gasket with a very thick aluminum core."

It seems clearly apparent who NHRA is focused on with this arbitrary change to one of the longest standing tenants of Super Stock eliminator racing. "Any intake manifold permitted provided unit is of the same configuration as original for carburetor used and will fit under original factory-produced, installed hood" has been one of the basic corner stones of Super Stock Rules since inception of the eliminator, dating to the early/mid-1970's. I'm just guessing but my money says they (NHRA) will expect the affected racers to be grateful that they "only" decided to make this change after almost 48 years of careful consideration.
