Question for Ed Wright
Ed,
I was reading one of your posts about your N/S 56 chev. When did you hold the record and do you remember what you set it at. I ran that class also back in the dark ages thanks, Butch Sentner |

Re: Question for Ed Wright
When they did away with Stock I held it at 13.10. Tom Ronca held the MPH, I don't remember what it was. Sonny Bryant and I swapped the et record a couple of times. Back then it was worth 200 points, same as winning 2 rounds at a WCS race. Setting the MPH record was 100. Now, zip.

Re: Question for Ed Wright
I held it in 1970 at a 13.24 and then I put a Marv Ripes glide and went some 12.90`s at Cecil county in good air. Cecil times were phony for the most part, too fast.
I was able to sell my 56 after the Cecil testing to a guy that was there that day. Butch |

Re: Question for Ed Wright
A lot of records were set at Cecil County and Atco back then. At The Dallas track (actually in Lewisville) at the Spring Nationals we would see some of those guys, as well as some left coast record holders, that could not run their own records. Welcome to the Sourhwest. :-). All you saw was their tails as their heads were under the hoods trying to find what happened to their cars.
Your name doesn't ring a bell, but I'm old. Buddy Ingersol and Garly Daniels ran N/S at that time with the same combo. A 1956 210 dr sedan with the 225 hp 2X4 carbs Vette eng.

Re: Question for Ed Wright
Butch, I'm really bad with names, I appologize, but it seems like the record was 13.24 first time I set it. Probably was yours It was at the Dallas/Lewisville track. Don't remember the year, but had to be about then. You had yours flying, 12.90s with a 'glide! About unheard of back then.

Re: Question for Butch Sentner....
Hey Butch.....You going to the Nostalgia race at Beaver Springs next weekend? I would like to stop by and say hello! You original Jr. Stock guys are my heroes! I started going to the 'digs" about the time you ran your car....although I missed seeing yours. I think I was at a race when the Ronca Bros. set an N/S record...not sure of the date although 1971 sounds about right? I saw the photos of your car on that site as well...and talked to several people that said you were one of the "heavy-hitters" back in the day....in a VERY tough Division!!
Many years ago, I met Alex Jarrell, the 3-spd. trans guy. More recently, I met Ken Gunning, and Laverne Benner at the Vargo Dragway Reunion. Might you be at "the beaver" next week? |

Re: Question for Ed Wright
A couple of pics of Ed's '56, Howard Barsky's '56 and Garley's '56 at Kinston, NC and at Indy in '71 after it was sold to Hubert Penland.
