SS chevy cylinder blocks

does anyone use a +.060'' factory block? newbe trying to keep my shortblock cost down...i have old school duffy/trw type pistons, not sure if they would survive todays 8500 rpm type enviorment... any opinions/experiances please

It’s a crap shoot with the factory blocks at .060 over. You would be better off saving for an aftermarket block. The prep cost is the same and you know you will have something good. The Duffy’s will hold up fine at that rpm. I used to run those years ago and never had one fail. Stick car and over 9000 rpm.

I sonic test every OEM block and find very few that I would use at .060 over in a performance build.

Get some better pins for the Duffy's pistons. They fail before the piston.

thankyou gentlemen for your input....i had a .060 over unit fill one cylinder with water, it wase'nt a season old...

Hi Richie,
I have 2 721 Nova blocks and 3 194 Nova blocks (1 is new counter exchange) most have been sonic tested. All 283 bore some over size. As you probably know they have thicker cylinder walls and a higher nickel content, nodular caps. The nice thing about them they weigh about 150 lbs. 712 363 3801 I also have 2 complete take out Nova engines.

GM has a Bow Tie block with 283" size mains now. Very thick cylinder walls, great for ring seal. Deck thick enough to build a "short deck" if you want. 4 bolt mains, etc. Nice piece, imho.

It will go +.125" if you want. Had mine well over a year. Don't know if my wife could find the invoice. Might google it.
