Which electric shifter to buy? (3-speed B&M Ratchet)
Just like the title says, which electric shifter are people using with this set-up?

I use the Shiftnoid and love it. It has never missed a shift, not even one time. Just install the MSD filter and run the shifter wires away from any "hot" wires in your car and you will not have any problems. Most problems are from shotty install jobs.

If your starting from scratch maybe you should check out "Altronics Inc introduces "SHIFT" a revolutionary shifting system" on the home page?

Yeah, I saw that, looks pretty neat, but I am trying to keep costs down. I figured the shifnoid was the most common, but $300 for a bracket and a solenoid seems a bit steep.

Re: Which electric shifter to buy? (3-speed B&M Ratchet)
I run a TH400 w/ reverse pattern, behind 468 BBC and purchased the B&M pro ratchet shifter and the Shifnoid complete setup brand new for $489. plus tax in April 2009. I have had nothing but problems with it. It never makes the 2-3 shift, except for the first run of the day. I replaced the rpm module they sent with an MSD piece still no better. We rewired it still no good. I purchased an MSD RF filter hoping that was the issue, still not working. My car runs an East Coast alternator and currently has 4.10 gears,an ATI conveter which stalls @ approx 3800-4000 rpm, and the tires are 29.5 " tall. This year we set up a push button switch on the steering wheel that I am using to shift gears manually, while keeping both hands on the wheel as our local track is far from optimum for my 10.5w tires and BB torque. I have really been dissapointed in this Shifnoid set up and when converted into Cdn dollars w/ shipping etc I spent $647, for it before replacing the RPM switch and adding an MSD filter. Now I am wondering if it is my combination of converter/rpm range/tire size/shift points that is stopping it from making the 2-3 shift. All my friends run power glides and have no issues at all, with their Shifnoid stuff. I don't think my converter is slipping too badly as I run 110 mph @ the 1/8 mile,ET of 6.42 seconds.

I have heard of this happening to others. One guy was charging his car between rounds and not turning off his master switch to the battery before connecting the charger which caused it somehow to not shift second time, not sure what that had to do with anything but it fixed it. |

Re: Which electric shifter to buy? (3-speed B&M Ratchet)
Just an update.
I had a spare air inline throttle stop laying around, and I made that link up to the shifter just fine. Had my dad build me a bracket, now all I need is a rpm controller and I will be ready to go. Sure beats the crap out of $300 for a solenoid and a bracket! |

Re: Which electric shifter to buy? (3-speed B&M Ratchet)
I did the same thing with an spare air servo on our S/ST car
this is the controller I used from Biondo ,never had any problems with it. Part: RPM-2SHIFT RPM Switch - 2 settings Price: $159.99 Weight: 1 lbs. Double Shift RPM Activated Switch: Face Size: 4" x 3-1/4" x 3/4" Overall Size: 5-3/8" x 3-1/4" x 3/4" Features / Specs: Auto Reset - No buttons to press! Shifts two gears at the same or different RPM Mounting tabs for easy installation Microprocessor controlled timing Retains all numbers when powered off Large LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) Works with 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 cylinder engines 3000 - 9900 RPM Range that can be change by pushing the buttons on the face of the unit Test Feature - Test your shifts by holding down either button for 2 seconds Two Separate outputs - Normally open, and closed. (For CO2, Air, or Electric shift applications) Programmable Repeat Feature - Unit can be programmed so it won't activate again at the finish line. This will save air for vehicles using air, or CO2 shifters.
