As long as you have a 12v charger in your trailer you can always put a 12V battery in the car as a back up plan. I always have a 12 v charger for the trailer battery. Nothing changes when you go back to 12 v. except the starter will crank slower and the car might slow just a bit. My car was consistently faster when I made the switch to 16v

A fuel injected car (at least mine) will run leaner if a 16 volt battery is replaced with 12 volts. The injectors open faster on 16, meaning they are fully open longer. When I went to 16 volts, I had to lean it down. Went back to 12 once, had to fatten it back up. Right now, I can not remember the percentages.
