Who's running the oldest set up in SS?
Just was curious about this. Seeing if my son and I run the oldest super stocker out there. Not in terms of the year but when built. My car still has the original back half Dana 60, ladder bar, single leaf suspension that was done in 79'. We don't have coil over shocks. Original roll cage. Anyone else have anything this old. I've been told by several racers over the years cut all that junk out of there and update it and you might have something. It will never be that fast with that old stuff in there. Hell even my engine builder has told me you have an old *** 80's super stocker. Well, I'm a state trooper and we don't make bank so it is what it is. We did run 9.65@135+ this year in SS/H with our old junk. I'm curious to here who else has some older stuff out there. We love "Old Trusty" and plan on keeping her for a long time!

Ed. My car is the same vintage. The Dana and ladder bars were done in 1976. Ran my first race in 1977. The original hoop for the cage is still there. We added the full cage when the chassis has to be certified for SS/IA. I also put coil overs in the rear about 12 years ago. This year will be 40 years in competition.

Jim Johnston's SS/OA car I believe dates back to the 60's.

Re: Who's running the oldest set up in SS?
My Camaro was built in the mid 70's by Wolverine Chassis in Michigan. Still has the same Dana 60, Ladder bars and mono leaf springs. Also has the same roll cage but have had some bars added. I did have the Ladder bar cross member replaced a few years ago because it was cracked. We have been bracket racing it the last few years but should have the 327 back in next year and hope to get back to doing some Super Stock racing.

My 68 Camaro SS project is one of the ex Modified Production cars of Checkmate fame. It came to Canada in 1974 and still has its SRD rear chassis, mono leafs, ladder bars and Dana 60. Other than removing the 3 point/4 point rollbar and putting a cage in it in 1985 it is still the same. Not sure of when it was built originally but probably 71 or 72

all the springs do is hold up the car, if they are the right spring rate you would not likely see a improvement it ET coil overs or not
