Thumbs up No drive by wire for 2018 and beyond.

Effective 2-08-18 Lucas Oil Winternationals. All drive by wire cars in stock and super stock must have positive cable operated throttle. This is to address possibility of traction control and down track timers.

A rheostat on the accelerator pedal sends a signal by wire to the computer which in turn sends the command by wire to a rheostat on the throttle body and the throttle blades are opened. A delay box could be installed in the drive by wire system along with the other items.

Would you want the person in the other lane calibrating their own throttle ?
That could be very interesting and scary

I checked with my Division tech director and he said he hasn't heard this discussed.

As if someone that knows how to program a DBW ecu to control throttle for traction control, can't control timing for traction control. Good try.

Exclamation Re: No drive by wire for 2018 and beyond.

Hey, the LS1 guys had to change to mechanical throttle linkage years ago, so this only makes sense. It would be very easy to add down track info with the current drive by wire systems. It seems that would make dialing a lot easier if you use that type of system, plus a whole lot easier to tech......
