Stroke measurement
I have a feeling this is a stupid question, but I can't seem to figure it out on my own so here goes....how does NHRA measure stroke in teardown? I'm disassembling and measuring the "used but freshened" 327 I bought for my Nova and haven't seen a dial indicator that goes that far. Also, the spec sheets say .002 in the hole and .018 head gasket...sounds a little tight to me. I realize that's a minimum, but how close is too close?

Re: Stroke measurement
Duh...just answered it for myself: http://www.jegs.com/i/Lunati/638/98900/10002/-1
Kinda pricey, though. Is there a way to do it without that tool? |

Re: Stroke measurement
That is used when crank is out of block, PMS make a tool to check from the deck with crank in block.

Re: Stroke measurement
Pretty sure when I tore down before that they just used a 6" caliper.

Re: Stroke measurement
Been torn down about 20 times, they use a caliper in TDC indicater. Rock it on the bottom of the stroke set to zero then rotate it up you will then have your stroke. They check deck hieght plus gasket as long as you are more than the spec you are ok, I run about 35 on my 283 you may want a little more on the 327. Tom
