I'll try to make it...not 100% sure though. Have been to the Marcus Dairy once (1999)...Wanted to visit Dover in the final years but never had the chance. I do recall Ralph Feola and John Gunn cleaning house at the "bucks-up" Super Stock events from National Dragster articles in that time frame....

I've been on the Dover website....and saw the discussion of the final day it was run...and the reason(s) why the track closed. Do I understand they SHUT DOWN after time trials were run...or did they finish the day?

Also, what's your opinion on why it closed?

ss...just caught this ..in response to your question ,,,that topic covers it...ran all day...final run was "King of the Hill" ..Ralph Feola beat Billy Casey. Oh ...were back at Lebanon for the 5th Annual Dover Drag Strip Nostalgia Drags ....Aug.10-11...I'll start a new topic when I get some more finalized details and surprises.Don't have an "opinion" really ...it was all economics...Its all in that Topic ...grab a bag of chips and read the whole thing.Heres a quote from that topic
" The track was closed for 1 reason. The auto emissions standards and gas prices were making the sport unactractive for the "STOCKER" crowd where Joe and Chet obviously made most money ( racer volume). This, combined with a fantastic offer to buy the property for humus peat and gravel processing made the closing and sale a "no brainer". It was a boring demise compared to the story about an accident...... which has absolutely no merit. Joe and Chet knew nothing about drag racing, and couldn't have cared less.
