Red face Onan Q4000 genset problem

OK so it was humming away with no problems on Friday at the race when it just shut off. Wouldn't restart. Let it cool off. Nothing. It will turn over and start and run until you take your finger off of the outside manual start button. Anybody got any ideas?

It is a 2011 Onan Q4000 with the flashing light trouble signal on the outside start button but the only code that gives is the "service" three blink code. ??? Jim

Jim if you push the button to stop once when it is still flashing 3 times, you should see a second fault code. Probably a series of two seperate blinks. If you can tell me what that is, I can give you more info. How many hours are on the machine?

Rich, the code it gives me is 32. that doesn't make sense according to my manual. That code is shown as a "low cranking speed fault", but it's not cranking slowly.
My unit has 839 hours on it. Jim

Jim, I had a similar problem with mine years ago. I don't recall if it was the same code as you are getting though. Mine ended up being the circuit board. Replaced it and it started right up.

I did Jim but emptied my messages and it must have not been sent to you.

Warrantee is 2 years on a 4KY in an RV
The Motorhome builder would refer you to Cummins-Onan for repairs

There is no quick fix and you need to take it to someone who is capable of diagnosing it and repairing it. A Cummins-Onan Authorized shop if it is under warrantee. Or someone with the knowledge and experience that is familiar with Onan's. The machine may have to be removed from the MH to be repaired.

Same here but mine is older so no codes it just wouldn't run when you released the button I too replaced the circuit board and that fixed it.
(Please be seated before asking the price of the circuit board . )

Exclamation Re: Onan Q4000 genset problem

Took it to Cummins/Onan in Orlando. They found it to be a bad bearing on the winding shaft. They had to completely tear the unit apart. They were good to me and did it under warrantee. It would have been $1100. Got it back and first time out it quit after exactly one hour of work. Took it back and the fuel pump was bad. They replaced the pump and filter. $349. I haven't taken the RV out since then. Just bought an extended warrantee from Good Sams. It will probably come in handy. Jim

.Bill, I found a circuit board on ebay for $325 from a dealer out West. Didn't need it and they took it back!
