There were no factory 427 Chevelles or Camaro's built. In 68. Hi Po dealers like Yenko, Dana etc were doing transplants and Joel Rosen @ Motion Perf & Dick Harrell were doing them in their own shops also.

The '68 COPO Nova was about the closest thing to a factory supercar that year. Ordered under COPO #9738, they were the 1st Chevy's with a 396 big block tied to a special M40 automatic and 4:10 posi rear. Harrell advertised his conversions up to 500hp. Fred Gibb placed the order for all 50 and sold them thru a network of dealers...he felt that these special M40 Nova's could be more competitive with Mopars & Fords running BB automatics

Before 1969 they (427's) were all transplants from specialty dealers like Yenko, Balwin-Motion, etc. .

Yep....they were a lot larger than the "Pony" cars and Chevelles mentioned here. Love the gas milage.

Actually, the big car had the 427 available from 1966 until 1969.

Over on Competition Plus, they have a link to the video from the 1978 SportsNationals, Stock came down to S.E Buchanan in his D/S Mustang and Bobby Blankenship in his B/S 66 Biscayne 427/425.

All of the 66 427/425 2 door big cars were natural B cars and stick only. But there were real 66 Chevy big cars with the 427/425 and a 4 speed.

Joel Rosen @ Motion installed an L88 in a 66 Chevelle back in the day. The owner drove it to the track, put some cheater slicks on & set a track record. The car was in GA for a while, but recently sold to a collector in NY. Pretty sure that the only 'factory' Hi-Po 427's in '66 were going in Corvettes...but I could be wrong. I'm no expert

I had two different friends that bought 68 Chevelle's with the 396-375 HP 4 speed options.
Both had cast iron heads.
Fastest cars around in 1968.
