Default Need help with rules

Hello, My dad and I have been building a 91 mustang convertible over the winter or the street/strip. The car will run in the mid 12's I'm wonder what type of roll bar I am going to need. I want to put the least bars as I can since the car is a daily driver and I want to keep it as stock appearing as I can

Thank

Jon

Do you have access to a rule book? It looks like on page 309 Section 21, page 3 of the ET Quick Reference Chart that Quarter Mile ET's of 13.49 requires a rollbar with a convertable. I am pretty sure it will have to be a min of 6 point.

No matter what you do, install subframe connectors. If it is a stick make sure you weld the rear control arm mounts. Check around where the seats bolt to the car and check the floor pan in those area's for stress cracks. Just some things to look for, especially if it is a factory stick car that has had a hard life.

Of course there are lots of vendors making Mustang stuff but I'd recommend trying S&W, they have several options and can recommend the exact bar to meet your needs.

Sean, I believe the old Lakewood style bar is still legal.
One A hoop , one back support, one side bar.
Not minimum 6 pt.... but maximum 6 pt.

Thanks Mark,
I did not see that in the rulebook for the ET classes. I missed the detail, it does show a 5 point.

I agree on the SW bar too.

Mark, I had that kind of bar in a 10.90 car many years ago (with a OEM firewall) and was told not to come back with it....if you read 4:10 of the General Regs and view the illustration I can see how tech inspectors could easily interpret it as not fulfilling the book on a few fronts....just my 2 cents but see my earlier post...

Guys,

Can you still run a bolt in roll bar or does it have to be welded?
