Re: Race #3 & #4 at Coastal Plains
It's RACE week!!! This is our 3rd attempt at getting our race in at Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway. Gates open on Friday, July 28th for a track hosted Test-N-Tune from 7:30 p.m.-midnight.
Saturday's title race sponsor is Robbie Draughon Powertrain Development of Fayetteville, NC (www.rdpdengines.com ). Robbie owns & operates a full-service machine shop, has an engine dyno & is also a CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association racer so if you're in need of any high performance machine work, be sure to contact Robbie. The associate sponsor is Mutts N Butts Grooming, owned by Kelsey Alexander, wife of CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association racer Korey Alexander. This is a grooming business so if your fur baby is in need of some special attention, be sure to get in touch with Kelsey & she will take care of them. Sunday's title race sponsor is Edwards Heating & Air out of Jacksonville, NC. This business is also owned & operated by local bracket racers, Ricky & Lauren Edwards. It's obviously the dead heat of the Summer with the 90*+ days so if you're in the Jacksonville area & need to give your AC a tune up, be sure to contact them. The associate sponsor is Brister Racing. Al Brister is the head CEO of this business & I think he tries to keep Billy Plage on the payroll 😉! Al is also a CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association racer out of Morehead City, NC. When you are in need of various services, please check out the list of CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association sponsors & contact them first! Also be sure to tell them you read about their business from CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association. A few notes to highlight for the upcoming weekend: * $200.00 to enter points * $100.00 to enter race * Points is as follows: 10 to enter 5 per round won Counting Best 10 out of 12 races 10 bonus points for attending ALL 12 races * Seatbelts must be within 2 years (same rule as NHRA) * Helmets must be Snell SA2015 or Newer (same rule as NHRA) * Bounty Hunter Award: If previous race winner isn't at next race, award will then go to the Runner-Up from said race, & if Runner-Up also isn't in attendance, then we will go to the Dash for Cash Winner from previous race * Permanent class destination/car #'s on all windows * Blinders ARE allowed * We will have CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association t-shirts for sale starting Saturday morning. * We will continue to do a raffle for $10.00 for each spot to win weekend entry. * You can still sign up for the Remind text messaging program to get all the latest CCRA announcements. https//www.remind.com/join/daa84g6 |

Re: Race #3 & #4 at Coastal Plains
3️⃣rd time was the charm!!!
I want to start of saying a "Special Thank You" to Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway Management & Staff for having great track conditions over the course of 2 days of extreme heat. During one round on Sunday, Mr. Terry Roland told me his temperature gun was reading 136*. Next, I have to commend all of our racers who endured the heat, rain, & humidity for 2 days of great racing to finally get this race in the books. If it weren't for you guys & gals, there would be no reason for the CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association to be around. Now let's recap some race results: Saturday we did get a later start than the schedule called for as "that witch" Mother Nature tried to play havoc on us again but Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway crews said NOT TODAY. Robbie Draughon, in a borrowed ride, started off the evening collecting a $100.00 courtesy of Warren Engines for Dash for Cash. Although his reaction time wasn't anything to give praise about, he did run a 7.210 off his 7.21 dial. There were 9 dead on runs during the evening Dash for Cash round. We had 40 cars on premises with 39 making the first round call. Mr. Joe Huestis came out on the losing side during R1 of eliminations but he didn't leave empty handed as he was awarded the 1st Round Best Losing Package, receiving $50.00 from Victory Lane Golf Carts & a new sponsor for the weekend, NHRA Stock Eliminator racer, Mr. Barry Parker also gave $100.00 for the 1st Round Best Losing Package so Mr. Joe collected $150.00 for his 1st round loss; 8.89 dial .036 RT, & ran 8.898 @ 73.83 mph. The Ford's Fuel and Propane/ Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants 2nd Round Best Losing Package went to Kevin Locklear. Kevin was dialed a 6.73, had a .045 RT, & broke out running 6.720. Just as soon as he was given his 5 gallon pail of PRO 112+ racing fuel, he instantly poured it in his car. #racersthatwinpouritin The semi-finals found a driver trying to out-do his dad for this year's Most Improved Driver 😉, DeWitt Pope. DeWitt didn't have the better RT in the semi's to Curt Smith Jr & although he went 7.085 @ 93.75 mph on his 7.08 dial, his .053 RT cost him the round. The finals brought two drivers to their first ever CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association finals so either way we were going to crown a new winner. Curt Smith Jr & Dell Britt met up in the finals. Dell had the reaction time advantage with his .015 to Curt's .039 but Curt ran dead on his 7.19 dial with a 4. Dell had had some battery issues in the few rounds prior & was able to make each round by his fellow racers loaning parts & helping his cool his car. It was still alittle warmer than it needed to be in the finals & he ran a 6.949 @ 94.82 mph on his 6.92 dial. Both drivers were tickled to death to make the finals!!! Curt Jr. & finance' came to today's race by themselves as his sister Catherine was busy winning her pageant so it was definitely "A Day to Remember" for The Smith Family!!!! Curt Jr. also received a $300.00 gift certificate from QA1 & a $100.00 gift certificate from ATI Performance Products. Dell received his race winnings as well as a $100.00 gift certificate from Altronics Inc, a $50.00 gift certificate from Meziere Enterprises, & a $50.00 gift certificate from ATI Performance Products. Billy Ryan received the Auto Plus Service Center sponsored Paul Bunyan "Best Reaction Time" Award for his 0.000 reaction time during 1st round of eliminations. Al Brister got the McLawhorn Racing sponsored Hard Luck Award for his breakage during Dash for Cash that resulted in him unable to compete in the race. Korey Alexander got himself a $100.00 Bounty Hunter Award courtesy of Wayside Landscapes & Supply for taking out KDS Motorsports Sunday's race winner Tim Fletcher during 3rd round of eliminations. Raymond Roland loaned his 2022 car winning battery to Dell Britt to make the last few rounds of competition for for his kind gesture, he was awarded the Butner Construction Sportsmanship Award. Billy Ryan also collected the Zamp Racing Best Winning Package award of the race for his round 1 win when he had his 0.000 RT, ran a 6.172 @ 105.16 mph on his 6.16 dial. Remember me mentioning earlier about Robbie Draughon being in a borrowed car & his RT's were nothing to talk about, well he still was able to collect $50.00 for his awful 0.391 RT (quick tree'd during bye run) for the Gutters by Design "Mind in the Gutter/Worst RT". We finished Saturday's race just a few minutes after Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway 1 a.m. curfew & we appreciate them for allowing us to declare a winner. Now everyone got a few hours of shut eye & we were back at it for Day #2 of CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association racing action. We started Sunday's action with our Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash. We had 4 dead on runs. Kelly Morris, new to the driver's seat in 2023, collected this $100 with his 8.65 dial, 0.032 RT, & ran a 8.655 @ 76.59 mph. Charles Myers from the tower of Coastal Plains Raceway Park Dragway pulled a random tech card from the past 2 days of racing & Mr. Joe Huestis will be receiving a $35.00 Visa gift card for the "Act of Giving Back" award on behalf of Half Moon Marketplace. We had 33 cars make first round of eliminations. Homer Carty took home the $50.00 from Victory Lane Golf Carts & the $100.00 for Barry Parker Racing for the 1st Round Best Losing Package. He had a 0.023 RT, ran 6.270 @ 107.73 mph on his 6.25 dial in. "Shotgun Boogie" paid for that first round loss as her go deep in the rounds of competition in the Footbrake division. Tim Fletcher in his ATI Performance Products Camaro didn't walk away from the weekend empty handed as his got himself a 5 gallon pail of PRO 112+ racing fuel from Ford's Fuel and Propane/ Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants for his 2nd Round Best Losing Package. |

Re: Race #3 & #4 at Coastal Plains
Part #2
Tim was dialed a 7.04, had a 0.042 RT, & ran a 7.050 at 94.09 mph. We made him put his ham sandwich in the passenger seat of the car in order to hold the pail of fuel for his picture. Today's lone semi-finalist was Don "Force" Shuford. Travelling buddies Don & Billy Ryan were trying to meet up in the finals but unfortunately Don's car spun against Corey Taylor at 3 cars resulting in a loss for Don. (Jennifer he still did "what he knows how to do" & his showed you how DEEP his love is for you 💙❤️)!!! The CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association finals brought two more new faces to one of our finals as Corey Taylor faced up against Billy Ryan. Corey had the reaction time advantage & took it all the way to Victory Lane. Corey was dialed 6.93, had a 0.017 RT, & ran a 6.965 @ 92.11 mph. On top of his race winnings, Corey also received a $300.00 gift certificate from QA1 & a $100.00 gift certificate from ATI Performance Products. Billy was dialed a 6.17, had a 0.039 RT, & ran a 6.206 @ 107.60 mph. Billy also picked up a $100.00 gift certificate to Altronics Inc, $50.00 gift certificate to Meziere Enterprises, & a $50.00 gift certificate to ATI Performance Products. Kelly Morris gets to collect two more envelopes for the day as he was also awarded The Paul Bunyan/Best RT award courtesy of Auto Plus Service Center & the $100.00 gift certificate courtesy of Crew Chief Pro Software for the Best Winning Package of the race. Both of these came from his round 2 win where he was dialed a 8.65, had a 0.002 RT, & ran a 8.650 @ 76.75 mph. I think we will find Kelly in the Winner's Circle before year's end if he keeps driving like he has the last few races. Don Shuford was awarded the Hard Luck Award courtesy of McLawhorn Racing as well as the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter Award for taking out Saturday's runner-up Dell Britt, since race winner Curt Smith Jr. wasn't able to compete. Dennis Pope was the Gutters by Design/Worst RT winner for his 0.198 RT during R1 of eliminations. As hot as it was this past weekend, I'm not really expecting much different in less than 3 weeks at Rockingham Dragway so y'all go ahead & plan on ways to stay hydrated & cool. This track will be a new track for the CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association & they are very excited to have us there so please let's give them one heck of a show. This race will also be the debut of the new Carolina Classic Modified Production Series. See y'all very soon!!! |
