Another ss/gt ?
88 camaro with 69 350/255/290 combo.
we checked converter flash and only goes to 5900.( checked with launch chip out and in low gear ) 198 p/g and 557 gear and 14x32 tires, wt 3265 what should it go to, i'm thinking around 64-6500 ? car seems to die( or drop rpm really fast) once it launches and how much would this help in performance? help please ............

Re: Another ss/gt ?
Danny, I think you're on the right track, you probably need 6600 or more. Also, you might consider moving up to a 5.86 gear.
Of course, that depends on how good your engine is. It has to be good enough to turn the necessary RPM, and make power when it does. Consider that 5.57 with a 2.52 low and a 6600 converter is considered a decent base line for a stout big block SS car. Get your converter out, get the serial number, and call the manufacturer to see what it is supposed to be doing in your car, if it is supposed to be in there. That will give you a good starting point.

Re: Another ss/gt ?
Danny....your son needs a bigger foot.......LOL. Seriously....listen to Alan. I listened to your car at MIR and it seemed to labor in low gear. I tried to find you later but got side tracked then you guys were gone. I ran 5.86 gears with 14X32's in a SS/IA Camaro with a 350/300 back in 1977-78 at 3220 lbs. . Todays engines are a lot stronger and they use better rods, wilder cams, stronger valve springs, ported heads, etc. that we couldnt get away with back in the day. "Sling" that puppy !

Re: Another ss/gt ?
I don't think that flash is out of line. Bout everybody that we know that has those combos, or similar ones, has their flash RPM in the 5850( Good Air) to maybe as much as 6150 in not so good air. That's just in my gang, and this is a big old country, so we might be the ones in left field......

Re: Another ss/gt ?
Track not good and had to abort every run......
Still did not feel a lot diff and lost 4-5 mph... Just may have to make a high $$$10.90 car out of this thing. Spent the $$'s and still going in wrong direction. Son is so fustrated ,he is thinking about retiring already..... He is even talking about ordering a holley carb and a throttle-stop. Anybody want some superstock engines and converters ? 69= 350/255/290 combo

Re: Another ss/gt ?
Danny, how are you making decisions based on aborted runs on a bad track?
I understand your frustration, trust me. I've taken to calling our Super Stock car Marvin the Martian, because it is evidently an alien, it is green, and apparently it is very angry with us earthlings. We've been flogging on this thing since March. We're hoping to get our first really decent pass next weekend.

He actually has a lot of passes on the car ( NC east coast Martian)and he is comparing it to some of the other simular runs from the past and the seat of his pants i guess you could say.......Talking about heads-up and the rarity of it,well we are the exception to the rule. the last two races at MIR we had heads-up first round both times and trust me we were doing all we could to avoid it on the sheet but it was what some of the other qualifiers did that changed the ladder.(not intentionally)
