Old Pro Stock Gremlin
Has anybody heard of a 72-73 Gremlin Pro Stock car that was campagned by a team called Raybaum and Sheppard? (spelling may be off)
I am looking at the car and definitely looks like early to mid 70's technology. Looking at purchasing for restoration but need to know if it was actually a true pro stock car. Current owner doesn't have much info other than it was built or campaigned in the Cinncinati area. Any help would be appreciated kjll25@mts.net

Post this over on the SC forum. Don Bangs (sc1448) drives one of the original restored Gremlin PS cars in nostalgia races in the north east. He is a long time AMC racer. Tom Goldman also is a very knowledgeable AMC guy.

Re: Old Pro Stock Gremlin
I've got a lot of old mag's with AMC stuff in, but I don't remember a car by that name. ...Most of those old factory cars had acid dipped bodies,so watch out for rot if its been setting around a long time. ... Don Bangs drives the WIBG radio Gremlin, that was driven by Rich Lamont. .... The owner of the car collects a lot of old info and might know the car you're looking at. . Tom

Perhaps Fred, the owner of this site will know something. He has photos of many of the old Hemi Pro Stockers and keeps up with that good old stuff.

Re: Old Pro Stock Gremlin
In the early 80's Jim Jezwinski raced an early 70's Gremlin in Super Gas. He named it Short Haul , because not only of it's size but because Jim drove truck back then. Jim sold the car to A. Joe Covert who went on to win the Northstar Nats in I think around 1987(?). I don't know where this car went after Joe had it. This car started as a Maskin and Kanners Pro Stock, back in the day. This might not be the one you are looking for but it was one of the original AMC Pro Stocks. RIP, Jim. Miss you Bud!

Re: Old Pro Stock Gremlin
Kevin,
That car belonged to my uncle and father in the early 90's. We're the Sheppard in Rehbaum and Sheppard. From what I understand, the car was one of several pro-stockers built by a couple of brothers in the Cincinnati area and is the only surviving one of the bunch. My father drove it with an injected big-block and a Doug Nash 4-speed (I believe the trans was originally out of Bob Glidden's car.) We'd actually like to hear what happened to the car after it was sold. What was the condition etc. of the car? My father's email address is dragrcr131@aol.com. Glenn |
