Default Battery box

I read the NHRA rule book about batteries in the trunk and it
only states that the battery must be secure.

Just what does that mean?

(1) just clamped down and have the bolts go through the trunk floor.
(2) plastic battery box
(3) metal battery box

Just what is correct and safe??

Phil, not sure where you looked, but on page 227 of the 2007 NHRA Rulebook, it's fairly descriptive. What I did was seal off the trunk behind the rear seat and package shelf with .032 aluminum, and had a battery tray fabricated and bolted to the frame section through the trunk floor with 3/8 bolts. The battery is secured to the battery tray with 2 3/8 threaded rods with a tubular strap along the top of the battery.
Hope this helps.

Thumbs up Re: Battery box

Joe;
Am I correct?
If you use a nhra/ihra sanctioning approved "sealed box" vented to the outside, as in the Moroso #74050 or equivalent, you do not have to seal off the trunk behind the rear seat and package shelf?
This type of box must be secured to the car in the same manner as you described.

Bob, as I read it in the rulebook, you are correct. It looks like that Moroso kit comes with everything you need.
