Break car & allowed replacement @ Columbus??
I have been out of the nat'l event/divisional event deal for a long time now. I attended the Sports Nat's @ Columbus and while taking it all in....saw a S/ST racer break his car on Sat afternoon and be allowed to go home and get another car and compete in the shoot out and the event. When did NHRA start allowing this again? if memory serves correctly they stopped that back in the 80s.
All who raced @ Columbus....great watching you all again! thanx |

I don't believe that should have been allowed......I suspect he didn't ask and just showed up with another car....

Re: Break car & allowed replacement @ Columbus??
It is largely at the event director's discretion:

I will not mention who it was. However I know for a fact that there was a s/c racer that broke his car and brought out his other car for first round. He lost, but it was an car NOT raced in time runs.

Re: Break car & allowed replacement @ Columbus??
I think he is referring to the "EDDIE HILL" rule but I think it only applies to Top Fuel or Funny Car not sure about any Sportsman classes tho---Comp 387

Re: Break car & allowed replacement @ Columbus??
The S/St racer in question didn't break any of the replacement vehicle rules. Also I was under the impression that he was told he could switch cars.
As he's a member on here I'm sure he will have some input .... |

Re: Break car & allowed replacement @ Columbus??
When i broke an axle at Indy, i was told i can not use a replacement car.
Jay H. Div director told me i can roll my car up pass the white line before the burnout box for credit of first round. I could not use my truck or another car cause i qualified that car.

Re: Break car & allowed replacement @ Columbus??
I've always been told for the Super classes, a driver that breaks his or hers car, can re enter a car that HAS NOT been through tech at that event. The SST racer i don't think or feel did anything wrong, but if the SC racer ran that car Chris was talking about in TD, now that was wrong and got by with a fast one.

Re: Break car & allowed replacement @ Columbus??
But if Tech closes at Noon on Saturday, how can he tech the car Saturday night and run during the normal sched?
5. Sportsman categories: All previous event times are voided for the vehicles and drivers involved. Changes must be made and driver must re-qualify during the normal schedule, as posted for the event. No changes are permitted after qualifying has been completed.
