86 was right about the time GM started changing the angle on the center 4 bolt holes to clear the Throttle body on the TBI engines. If those four holes are 90 degree to the head then your old manifold will bolt right on. If the four center holes are tilted slightly you can "modify" the four center bolt holes in the intake to get the bolts to fit. Edelbrock makes some angle spacers to help but I have done a couple without using them and it worked fine.

Thanks for the info Bill.Yes this engine had a TPI induction system on it,but it was removed before I purchased it.I want to put a1965 afb intake on it,with a edelbrock afb style carb.So I can just elongate the center holes and it should work?

That should do it.

I thought they changed the center bolt holes around 1987? If you want one of the factory aluminum intakes (14101074), I have a nice one already cleaned up and ready to bolt on. It is for a quadrajet.

There are a couple of mixed years. if the engine came with Throttle Body Injection it had the different angle center bolt holes but some 86 and maybe 87 Trucks still had Qjets and I dont think they had the different bolt angle.

Either way the older intakes will work with just a little modifying of the center bolt holes. It sounded like Lyn wanted to keep the old school look.

1987 GM trucks had Throttle Body EFI, 1986 was the last year for carbs.
