Default Long shifter vs. Supershifter

I’m building a street 67 Camaro with a G101 and Long pistolgrip but I’m thinking about not using the Long because I have to murder the tunnel.A friend of mine said he thought he remembered having to cut the tunnel somewhat to use a Hurst Supershifter as well. This is a Street/Strip car and has a pretty decent interior so I’m up in the air on what kind of shifter to use. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Go with a Hurst completion plus and it will fit in the stock console. I also modified the mounting pad to move the shifter closer to the center of the trans as the mounting pad is quite thick.

Copy on the Competition Plus.I don’t mind cutting the floor but nobody makes any kind of boot or cover for the Long shifter that I can find or I would use it. Thank you for the input .

Absolutely use the Long shifter unless you want to kill your trans.

The G101 appears to be a copy of the BW super T-10. I ran those in my Camaro years ago. I did have to cut for the shifter using a v gate shifter or Super shifter but did not have to cut the side of the tunnel. I did have to cut the side of the tunnel out when I went to the 5 speed type trans. There is no type boot available to cover the shifter for a V gate type shifter. You would have to have an upholstery shop sew up a leather one with a draw string at the top.

I use the Mr. Gasket Vertical Gate (later called the Hurst V Gate 2) and occasionally you find one on ebay, and also the original rubber boot made for it. You will have to cut, but not much more than for a Super Shifter. The shifter will need a little bigger hole, but the cut or bending for the rods is the same with the SS and the VG. I also custom make the mounting plate to put it where I want it, to clear my bench seat.

On the advice of Wayne S. I called and talked to Chris at Long about an H-pattern Long and he said even with that one some modification is needed, so I think I’m going to just use my imagination and see if I can’t fabricate something nice.Ill post up any pictures if I come up with something. Thank You fellas and Thank You Wayne. Hey also, the first COPO to run a stick had a Long in it if anybody has any pictures. I’ve seen them but can’t find it.It had a really nice plate made up for it.

Competition plus in the console, no cutting up the car. G101 running low tens. Long shifter will not be faster or more accurate. Good luck with either way you go.

Ive used long H pattern 5 speed and hurst 5 speed and still like the hurst style better. The long inline 5 speed is the best thought which I used also.
