Rear brake help!!!
I recently purchased a used 12 bolt moser rearend with the LS1 brake setup to go in my third gen Camaro. I wasn't aware how big those brake calipers are and wont clear my 15X10 Weld draglites. I called Moser and they say the Wilwood brake kit will work on that rear and clear my 15 inch wheels. The other option is keep the LS1 brakes and buy different wheels such as the Weld RTS that will clear the larger brakes. What is best choice of brakes Wilwood vs. LS1 brakes? Any recommendations? Thanks

Re: Rear brake help!!!
Don't need or want big brakes on the rear of a drag car. Buy the lightest rear brakes you can find . Aluminum drums work good. ---Trevor

Re: Rear brake help!!!
I ordered Wilwoods on my Moser. Theyre close. But no clearance issues with my 15x8 Weld draglites. Hopefully they actually put a drag ring and pinion in yours. Shattered mine on the 18th pass. Thank god i caught it pulling the drive shaft, And not at a buck twenty. Guess you have to check everything you get now a days.

Steve
Are your rear brakes disc or drum? Are you satisfied with them? Im planning to run my 15x10 (5.5 BS) draglites. Just hate knowing that i would be spending this extra money for a drag brake setup that is not any better than the current stock brakes that i have on it just to clear these wheels. Jason |

Re: Rear brake help!!!
Hi Jason. Yes they are Disc's. Its the only way to fly. Very happy with them. Disc's are so much better than drums. A lot more braking. Just make sure you check the brake bias. I kind of fried my fronts the first season because i didnt have it right. I believe its suppose to be 60% rear, 40% front. I have them on a 66 Chevy2. So clearance is always an issue. I run 4.5 back spacing. I should have also said that your wheel weights will have to be closer to the inside (toward the differential) of the wheel. When i had originally had the tires balanced. The weights were more centered. And the calipers kind of peeled the weights off the wheels. They are close. But theyll clear. I have about 3/8" clearance. And if worse came to worse. You could grind a little off the leading edge of the caliper if they are close.
I dont know how to post a pic on here. If you send me your e-mail add. I can shoot you a pic of how it looks. Steve

Re: Rear brake help!!!
Yes they work pretty good, but they can't rival the ability of four wheel disc brakes to hold a car steady when stalling near 4000rpm. It isnt all about stopping performance.
