Default Re: 1966 stuff

Here is my interpretation. I'm trying to do this with all the 1960-71 or so NHRA results (before the big rule changes in 1972).
It takes some guesses & lots of help to nail down all the cars & engines, any corrections appreciated!

I use burnt-clutch black font for stick cars, and dripping-red ATF color for auto cars.

It helps me a lot to "color code" the engines, it really shows who was dominant in any given year. Trying to be terse so it fits but info-rich. For example, LR=LowRiser, SD=SuperDuty, m=mechanical h=hydraulic cam, i6=6-cylinder, etc.

For the cars, 2ds=2-door-sedan, sw4d9p=station-wagon, 4door, 9passenger, etc.

EDIT 28 June I made the engine font easier to read hopefully. Lots of engine combos to guess or sometimes somebody remembers. If not sure, I color a box pink, meaning a guess.

Well ya'll, I got lots of questions about some of these cars.

There are several names here I've never heard of.

Since some of you guys either know these cars/drivers, or know how to search out their info, maybe ya'll can help me learn more about 'em.

So, going down the points lists 1st, I see:

Div 1 - Ed Beyer & Harold Rollins, both driving '56 Pontiacs. I'm not familiar with that last name. Have a pic of a yellow "Banana Peel" '56. Not sure who drove it.

Div 2 - Sammy Ferracci in another '56. Bill Tuner in a C/S '65. Steve Honnell, in a '62. Don't know any of these names.

I assume the C/S '65 is a GTO. Anybody know ?

Don't know what class the '62 ran.

Div 7 - Jay Hamilton in an F/SA '68. Ramon Lowe in a D/SA '60. Truman Easley in a E/SA '58. Then it's got Ronnie Broadhead in a C/S '66 Olds.

I'm thinking Jay Hamilton should be in a '58 ?

Haven't seen Ronnie Broadhead listed in an Olds. I have his '60 Pontiac with C/S on it. But, we all know that sometimes Pontiac guys switched brands & sometimes they drove for other owners. Or, this info may be wrong.

Then about the nat records:

D/S mph - Ronnie Broadhead in a '60

B/SA mph - Wolf & McClelland - Doesn't list a year model. I have pics of their '62, with both C/SA & D/SA on the window. Don't have one with B/SA on it. But, I do have pics of both a '61 & '62 running in B. So, was this a GTO or their '62 ?

D/SA mph - Lowe & Beardsley '60

E/SA both ends - Lowe & Easley '58

F/SA tie for ET - Jay Hamilton '58

J/SA both ends - Ed Beyer - assume '56

I'm also used to seeing Broadhead's 60 Pontiac.

But, see Boyce's book pg47, it shows Broadhead's 66 olds 442 running C/S at the Winternationals etc, says he "hopped out" of his usual 60 Pontiac.
The 442 ran in the C/S=9.50 class that year.
So that part makes some sense to me.

What does NOT make sense is the 66 Winternationals sheets show Broadhead running D/S=10.60 class in a 66 Olds. I'm thinking maybe THAT was his 60 Pontiac? Ran both cars at the same meet?

Back on the Records sheet - I have Hamilton's car as a 4dr sedan Starchief
3826+100)/330 = 11.90, perfect fit to class (adding 100 lb for the big hydramatic battleship anchor).
Boyce says it was a 338hp FI engine, but that won't fit class, the car is then too light, (3826+100)/338=11.62.
I'm thinking the 338hp combo came later in 1968-up when there was an 11.50 class, which is then a good fit.
Any recollections there?
