AMX in SS/A
14. 3002 SS/A A.H. Adkins, Ravenswood WV, '69 AMX 8.710 9.65 -0.940
While looking at the final SS qualifying order posted on DRC from the D2 points meet at Rockingham I noticed something very odd. How does a '69 AMX that is a natural SS/C car get to move up two classes to SS/A? |

Re: AMX in SS/A
That combo received 10 horsepower on July 3rd. Mysteriously the combo received another 3 horsepower on July 24th . That 3 put it in SS/A....Go figure....

Re: AMX in SS/A
The horsepower change was on the replacement head. The way it was explained to me was that any horsepower change on a replacement head would add weight as a penalty but not change the class factor. Class factor number is based on OEM head and only changed when OEM head gets horsepower.

Re: AMX in SS/A
Found the rule in Section 11A, page 2 of the 2018 NHRA rulebook. It is stated in the first paragraph on that page.

Re: AMX in SS/A
So Mr. 2, is the AMX in the wrong class, similar to Jimmy Bridges being in the wrong class for a few seasons ? ..Disclaimer.... Jimmy and Debbie are close friends of mine....

Re: AMX in SS/A
According to Classracerinfo (one of my favorite sites BTW), it is a SSB/C/D car.

Re: AMX in SS/A
This is nuts !! With all the anarchy , pandering to special interest and chaos in class racing ! Who cares !! This is a real SS car !!! not a prodigy of reading the classification guide for 6 months. Its not like he's playing the system to run SS/EA !!! Give the man a break !! Go take your (100%) legal car and run a class higher !!! Im sure all you guys are 100% by the book !!!

No, this is Class racing, not Pick Your Class racing.
