CCRA Rockingham May 25-26
This weekend, the GBM Land & Construction CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association returns to Rockingham Dragway for races #5 & #6 on the yearly schedule. If you've been unable to make the trip to Rockingham this year, you're definitely in store for a treat with all the upgrades that Dan VanHorn & his staff has done for US racers.
Gates will open at 2 p.m. on Friday with testing beginning at 4 p.m.-10 p.m. $40.00 test & tune fee. Saturday, May 25th, time runs will begin at 10 a.m. There will be plenty of action on Saturday as they have 4 classes for their brackets, CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association, Carolina Classic Modified Production, & the 4.70 Outlaws. Our Saturday title race sponsor is Sloan Racing Engines out of Sanford, NC & HGR Trailer Sales out of Fayetteville, NC is the associate sponsor. We will start off with our normal one time run, followed by the Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash, then roll right into eliminations. Sunday, May 26th (Tabitha Moore Draughon's birthday), church service will be held in the top floor of the tower at 9 a.m., with new entry time runs only for brackets followed by our Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash beginning at 10 a.m. After that, we are sending 2 down with 1 coming back to crown a winner for Sunday & get everyone home to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday on Monday. If you'd like to stay over & bracket race on Monday, Rockingham Dragway will be running. The Sunday title race sponsor is Truell Grading Company and HGR Trailer Sales being the associate sponsor once again. We've only had 3 races for the 2024 season so if you're interested in entering the points, you can do so this weekend. * $200.00 to enter points * $100.00 to enter race (daily) * CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association t-shirts, hoodies, & hats available. We will also have a collection box at the registration table for the upcoming birth of Kevin, Amber, & DT Locklear's baby girl for gift cards & cash. Last year Rockingham Dragway was our highest car count race of the year so let's improve from that & break another CCRA-Carolina Class Racers Association record as well as putting on one heck of a show for Rockingham Dragway owners, staff, & spectators. See y'all on Friday!!! |

Re: CCRA Rockingham May 25-26
I was under the impression it's all 1/8, don't think they are prepping the second 660 with all the bracket racing going on in the mean time.
Hoping to see everyone Sunday! Think I'm going to make it out for day 2!

Rockingham Dragway Race #5 & #6 Results:
This past weekend, we visited the new & improved Rockingham Dragway for their annual Big John Memorial Race weekend. With over 400 cars on the property, Saturday made for an extra long day but the Rockingham Dragway owners & staff put in all the necessary work & was able to pull off a successful day of racing. We would like to say THANK YOU to Dan VanHorn, Al Gennarelli, Jim Howard, & the entire staff at The Rock for the awesome track conditions over the weekend with the extremely hot weather conditions & the obstacles that they were thrown on Friday morning upon arriving at the track. We started the day off with our normal time run, then followed that with the Warren Engines Dash for Cash. Corey Taylor attending his first CCRA event of 2024 with a new engine combination missed the first run due to switching out torque converters came back & collected $100.00 for his 6.1801 at 108.30 mph on his 6.18 dial. I'd say he's got it dialed in already. 39 cars made the 1st round call after having 2 drivers suffer damages during the Dash. The Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package went to Scotty Galyean. He had a .0211 RT, ran a 6.9673 at 96.22 mph on his 6.95 dial. The Ford's Fuel and Propane/ Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants 2nd Round Best Losing Package went to Corey Taylor for a tough loss. He was dialed a 6.16, had a .0502 RT & ran 6.1688 at 104.90 mph. He picked up a pail of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 112+ racing fuel. Kevin Riner was the lone semifinalist. He lost a close race against Tanner Hiatt. I think Tanner was just paying him back from KDS Motorsports. Saturday's finals found Terry Taylor, which is no stranger to a final round appearance & first time final round appearance in only his 4th ever race, Tanner Hiatt. Terry had the advantage at the tree with his .0133 RT to Tanner's .0658 RT & carried that straight to a victory. Terry was dialed a 6.87 & ran a 6.8852 at 93.46 mph while Tanner broke out running 6.7558 at 102.55 mph on his 6.76 dial. Once again, THANKS to GBM Land & Construction, we were able to pay 1st Place $2000.00. Terry also received a $100.00 gift certificate to Altronics Inc, a can of FOGGIT, a certificate for a set of E3 Ignition spark plugs, $100.00 gift certificate to Crew Chief Pro Software, $100.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, $100.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of Fuel Factory F8 racing fuel for his win. Tanner received a $50.00 gift certificate to Portatree Timing Systems, a certificate from E3 Ignition for a set of spark plugs, $50.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, $50.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, & a 5 gallon pail of F12 racing fuel from Fuel Factory. The Dunn Logging Company sponsored Paul Bunyan "Best Reaction Time" award went to Phil HIlling for his .005 RT during round #2 of eliminations. The McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck Award went to Tim Sloan after his 2nd round win, he was pulling back into his pit area & broke a camshaft in his engine. Tanner Hiatt won the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter award in Round #1 for taking out the ROXBORO MOTORSPORTS DRAGWAY Sunday race winner, Mr. Charlie Wisecarver. Robbie Draughon was awarded The Wisecarver Brothers Racing sponsored Sportsmanship Award for working on, sorting out the bugs, & driving Brodie McKee's (Son of Day Dreamer II) Chevy Camaro getting it ready for Brodie to get behind the wheel at the upcoming Clemmons Concrete Stick Shift Nationals at Farmington Dragway in June. Joseph Strickland won the Performance Sealing and Striping Best Winning Package for his round #2 win. He had a .0079 RT, ran a 7.5124 at 87.92 mph on his 7.51 dial. The Gutters by Design "Mind in the Gutter/Worst RT" went to Jake Melton for his .2003 RT in round #1 & still got the round win. Thank you to all of our racers & crew members for staying up LATE with us to complete the Saturday portion of the race in the wee hours of Sunday morning. |

Re: CCRA Rockingham May 25-26
On Sunday races, we only run the Warren Engines sponsored Dash for Cash. Mr. Dan Fletcher won this & was eligible for the 1st round bye run but to no surprise at all, he didn't get it. If y'all know The Fletcher's, they never receive a "true" bye run. Dan had a .0426 RT, ran a 7.1209 at 93.46 mph on his 7.12 dial. A random tech card was pulled on Sunday evening for the Half Moon Marketplace "Act of Giving Back" award with Tanner Hiatt being awarded a $35.00 Visa gift card. Just like on Saturday, we had 2 cars suffer breakage so we had 32 cars make the first round call. Dawson Pauley, new to class racing this year rolled into Rockingham Dragway Sunday morning to attend his first CCRA race event. Although he pulled into the staging lanes wrong, he still left with alittle cash as he was the Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package winner. He was dialed a 8.18, had a .0364 RT, & ran dead on 8.1897 at 78.91 mph for the loss. We hope to see you at another one of our events very soon Dawson. Mr. Jim Morgan was the Ford's Fuel and Propane/ Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants 2nd Round Best Losing Package in which he earned himself a 5 gallon pail of PRO 112+ racing fuel. He was dialed a 6.70, had a .0315 RT & ran a 6.7878 at 95.77 mph. Current points leader coming into the weekend, Mr. Charlie Wisecarver redeemed himself from his Saturday 1st round red light & found himself in the semi-finals along with Kelly Morris, Blake Hickman, & Lee Truell. Unfortunately Wisecarver & Morris loss that round. Blake Hickman & Lee Truell found themselves in the finals of Sunday's race. Lee decided to cut Blake's head off at the hit with his .0008 RT & carrying that on to his first win of the 2024 CCRA season. Lee ran a 6.1133 at 110.95 on his 6.10 dial. Blake was dialed a 7.31, had a .0411 RT, & broke out running a 7.3096 at 86.26 mph. For the 5th time of the 2024 season, GBM Land & Construction title sponsorship allowed us to pay $2000.00 to the race winner. Truell also received a $100.00 gift certificate from Altronics Inc, a can of FOGGIT, an E3 Ignition certificate for a set of spark plugs, a 50% off one item from Zamp Racing, $100.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, $100.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, & a 5 gallon pail of Fuel Factory F12 racing fuel. Lee was also the winner of the Dunn Logging Company Paul Bunyan/Best RT for his .0008 RT in the finals & the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter award for taking out Saturday's runner-up, Tanner Hiatt after Terry Taylor wasn't in attendance on Sunday. Let's just say that Lee (Jamie) left with a few envelopes! Blake left with his race winnings as well as a $50.00 gift certificate from Meziere Enterprises, a certificate from E3 Ignition for a set of spark plugs, $50.00 gift certificate from Edelbrock Performance, $50.00 gift certificate from COMP Cams, & 5 gallons of F8 racing fuel courtesy of Fuel Factory. Keith Alexander suffered some engine failure & was awarded the McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck Award. Jake Melton was chosen for the Wisecarver Brothers Racing Sportsmanship award for his help to several fellow racers over the weekend. Blake Hickman received the Performance Sealing and Striping Best Winning Package for his round #3 win. Blake had a .0036 RT, ran a 7.3182 at 90.71 mph on his 7.31 dial. Brian Oakes got the Gutters by Design/Worst RT for his .1975 RT during round #1.
The CCRA team, Leigh Anne Flynt, Dave Ley, Gloria Ley, & myself would like to say THANK YOU to the racers & crew members for a great weekend at Rockingham Dragway. This series wouldn't be successful without the support of all of y'all. Although CCRA is off until August (unless the rescheduled Sunday KDS Motorsports race is put on schedule), there is still quite a bit of racing in between that we want to wish our racers good luck at. The NHRA National event is coming up at the beautiful Bristol Dragway, then the NHRA Southeast Division 2 race at GALOT Motorsports Park, Clemmons Concrete Stick Shift Nationals, & the National event at Virginia Motorsports Park just to name a few. See y'all at the track very soon!!! Last edited by Tabitha Draughon; 05-30-2024 at 09:38 PM. |
