On the stop time

is there any advantage in keeping the stop time longer than say the average times of 2.8 sec for a SC Dragster?

I kept it on longer at a higher rpm 10 years ago I did ok.
Been out of the game a while now though

I've never changed my approach to either shorten or lengthen the time on the stop. The only concern I have is that I want to trip the 60' timer while on the stop every time. If I wasn't doing that, I'd want to increase the cruise RPM until I could do that.

I have to think that less time on the stop would be more consistent, as a gust of wind is going to have less impact on a WOT car.

I do what I can to keep time out of the stop.. usually by trying to keep my cruise RPM lower than most folk.. you can try it, BUT, you'll need a good carburetor guy, with throttle stop experience.. I use DC Carbs in Texas, and I can cruise at 3600 to 3800 RPM with no stumble coming off the stop.. it also depends on your power.. and it may affect your 60ft..

I always use the thought that the longer I'm on the stop, the less track I have to play with.. just me??.. could be... LOL!!!

I agree with Tony. Make sure you're on the stop past the 60' clock. I wouldn't get too caught up into how much is in the timer. I'd be more concerned with finding a happy timer 1, shift point, and throttle stop rpm.
