The 85 GT is a stick only combo, I am sure Rory was just pointing out that an auto would have been easier on the block. The block does not have to be casting number specific, but the heads and intake do. Ford in their infinite wisdom are famous for year specific casting numbers. For example the intake for each year of 83-85 302 HO is the same intake. But a different casting number making it more difficult to find.

It would be a good idea to look in the classified cars section. Bill Dyer is selling a complete 85 engine with an aftermarket block, and a car already set up. For what he is asking you can not even come close to building it for the listed price.

The '83 4bbl intake had a E3 casting number and the 84-85 had a E4 casting number.

I have one of each and cannot tell any difference between them.

Anyone know why Ford assigned a new # in '84 ?

Alan, I also have the E3 & E4 intakes, and the only differance I can recall is the EGR passage is slightly different. Even with the carbs on 83,84,&85 5.0s, about the only difference was the style of choke pull off.

It might be on engine specs or approved parts.

Quick Fuel makes a legal carb for the 83-85 4bbl H.O.

Thank you. Stock or super stock for this 1985 mustang which is the better way to go as far as competition cost performance and expense.
