Default MSD Chips

anybody have trouble with the msd chips being off of what they are suppose to be ? 6200 chip for two step but only goes to 6125. I have heard there is somebody out there that makes a more accurate chip-who?

MSD rpm chips or pills are just resistors inside the casing .
Resistors come in varying degrees of accuracy or tolerance . the most common ones are 20% . with better more precise ones being 10 or 5 %.
Your difference in RPM less than 2%,which is really very good , I've sorted thru as many as 5 or 6 pills sometimes to get an exact rpm.
I'd try a 6300 chip to bring it closer to your desired 6200.
Other things that affect rpm accuracy are oxidized pins on the pill and loose sockets on the 2 step module .
Hi temperatures can cause resistance to change also . .. Something to consider when locating anything electronic.

I've noticed the same thing, that they generally activate at lower rpm than rated. You could check out the MSD 89952 RPM Chip Tester, or this list of rpm chips and their corresponding resistance values. I found this somewhere online so take it for what it's worth.

Is this a new item or discontinued? I see it on the parts vendor sites but find zero mention of it on the MSD site. Is the tester accurate when compared with how an individual chip functions in actual use? Anyone using an MSD 8998 for the same purposes?

I use the adjustable modules instead of the chips. The ones I have are right on the money +- a small amount. If your chip rpm is real close to what the stall rating on your converter then it could vary more due to weather conditions that effect HP and the actual stall speed of the converter. I am usually chipped at least 1000RPM below the stall speed of the converter. I adjust up and down on the RPM to get my reaction time where I want it to be. The chip RPM makes almost no difference in ET through out a 600-800 RPM range.
