Default Which GM trans?

Helping someone with a 3400 lb. car with big GM motor that makes about 950 hp. What would be a cost effective dependable automatic to go with?

Thanks

Assuming this is for drag racing, a turbo 400 is the best choice at this weight and horspower. You could use a glide if you spend the bucks for a well built one....Probably be $2,500.00 to $3,500 for a glide that will be dependable at this power/weight level. The 400 is much beefier and the extra gear will help get the car moving easier off the line (2.48 vs.1.76). You will spend some decent bucks on a good 400 but it will be half of what a glide costs.

That's my take!

TH400 for sure. ......At that HP I'd use a Vasco input from ATI or the supplier of your choice. .....Also, ATI has a center support that has a bearing to support the direct drum, which improves both ring sealing and sprag life. ....All the rest of the parts will live at that HP,altho I'd also use an aluminum direct drum , for a little added safety. ......I have a customer running a nostalga Gasser with a 1100 HP blown Hemi with this setup with no problems for over 3 years. ......Tom
